Brad Miller will be a great addition to the Rockets. Simply because he brings experience, and he knows Rick's offense well. Rick had many success with Miller playing on top of the key. Plus Brad Miller still have a lot of basketball left in his system and he is capable of having a big impact on an important game.

He will be a great backup for Yao or even a starter if Yao cannot successfully make a full recovery.

Getting Miller would be intriguing. Most notably his familiarity with the system, KM, and RA. The problem is Yao won't be back to 100% for a while. Who knows how long he'll last as well. As much as I love the big guy, the team has to develop a backup for the long-term. The Chuckwagon is fine in some situations but we need someone that will eventually supplant Yao in the future. The front office has neglected that for years. That's why Yao has been playing more minutes than he should which results in wear and tear.

Miller can also play the 4. I like the idea.

Brad Miller - Age 34 versus David Anderson - Age 29

    FG% - .430 versus .432
    3P% - .280 versus .346
    P/40 - 14.7 versus 16.5
    R/40 - 8.2 versus 9.3
    A/40 - 3.2 versus 2.0
    PER - 12.96 versus 12.11

Explain to me why we want to add "an older David Anderson", when we already have 2 more years guaranteed on the one we have?

Who has more upside - David Anderson in his 2nd season, or a 34 year old Brad Miller?

Other than better passing skills from the high post, there is very little difference in their games. Neither can rebound or block shots. Both are jump shooters.

We've burned enough salary on one soft 7 footer, we don't need a "spare", and we already have a starting backcourt (Brooks / Martin) that can't defend. Let's add bigs that can protect the paint and the rim.

Solid Post! i completely forgot about andersen. i do have to say that i think miller is still quicker and will obviously run the offense better, and HAS to be a better man to man defender than david. but are those factors worth the price to have both players??

That's exactly what I want to say! We really need someone to protect the rim, as Brooks and Martin really can't defend.

That is the reason the Rockets want him.

When 1 plays 14.1 minutes and the other 23.8 minutes, I really doubt per 40 stats is the best way to compare the 2.

At this point there is no other reasonable way to compare their production other than to normalize it over a common time period.

Brad Miller would have been a good pickup 2 years ago. At 34, and with obvious declining skills, he is not. My point, which you obviously missed, is that he is very similar to Anderson - who we have guaranteed 2 more years at over $2MM/year.

We don't really need another soft 7-footer, than can rebound or defend.

If he comes at a low cost, than I'm all for it. It would be a bad idea to enter the season expecting Yao to give us 25+ mpg and/or 50+ games...so shoring up the position, even with a part-timer, is a good call.

Miller is a very good fit with this offense. I don't look at it as him vs Andersen...I look at it as him + Andersen vs Hayes + Andersen. I'd rather Chuck come off the bench as needed, to the position that needs him.

Miller is also a much better defender than Andersen, if only for his ability to body up on bigger players.

I don't think signing him is a given - the Knicks are also talking about him, and they aren't the only ones.

I agree with you, but I'm one of those concerned about having both Miller and Andersen. We really need some defense with height at the 5, and more athleticism there than Miller (or Andersen) can give us. While I'd much rather have Miller over Andersen, the fact remains that we have Andersen. Maybe we could buy him out and send him back to Europe? I'd be up for that! ;)

Miller is by no means soft. No, he's not a shot blocker but he's a rugged one-on-one defender. For example, I went to the Chicago game last year when we blew a 17-point lead in the last 6 mins of the 4th quarter. The main reason for the comeback was Brad Miller's ability to aggressively deny the entry pass to Yao. He denied him on multiple consecutive possessions, then Artest tried taking over from 3-point range and it was over. We've got to think about how we're going to beat teams like the Lakers, Denver and Cavs next year. Brad Miller can definitely help against their bigs. Get a shot blocker from the draft.
