Hi... My name is Houston. And I am a large prominent city with a "large prominent newspaper/rag outlet" You might know my big brothers Chicago, New York and LA. We are all "big time" cities and media outlets. My brother New York is very crazy in the media regard. Always making up funny outlandish stories. New York well he is very introspective and sometimes forgets about everything outside of its self. I guess you could say he was a narcissist. And Chicago, well he had it great a while back. He had a turn for the worse and he never recovered. LA is just LA. Californians are like that.

Let me tell you about me. Probably the foremost expert on all things especially sports. We only have one paper in town, soley because it dominates so hard no other paper could ever breathe enough to leave. I guess my son "The Chronicle" is comparable to other media outlets. Except for a nasty nasty case of newspaper herpes.

I went to the doctor last week and I got diagnosed. I have a terminal chase of Solominitis. Delusions of grandeur, a child-like ability to string sentences together and a huge ITCH to annoy the persons ingesting me are the most obvious symptoms.

You see, I never grew like my brothers. I stayed small, I never paid big money for a sportswriter, I paid 40K. I don't get national coverage and that hurts. And a long time ago, I just gave up, I stopped fighting Solominitis. It will indeed kill (or at least maime) me. The people in my city don't really pay attention to my sports rag, and so thats why it passes to be mediocre, because no one notices beause no one cares. Why "employing" crappy writers flies and flies so well.

I got a digital implant a few years ago named Clutchfans, and it was as good for me, as my weenie pump "Jerome Solomon" was bad.

Since the Post left it's all been down hill from there. No competition.

Print news organizations usually also have their Internet counterparts. You would think the quality of writing and reporting on those sites would be a bit better than what we've seen from some writers. In the past, we've actually gotten a lot of information from various Chronicle articles.

wow, a bit harsh... They're understaffed and have been for some time. A metro paper needs many more reporters on staff than they currently have.

Why don't you cover all the sports as well as they do? Why? Because you could never do what they do.

Dachuda- Most of the board can write better than Solomon.

If the chronicle is understaffed it is there own fault and longterm bad decision because they wont ever gain favor in the current state.

The Chronicle wants page hits. Queen got them page hits. Honestly, Bozo has been doing the same thing (trolling) for a couple of years now, and queen is just playing catch up, and let's be honest. Sports reporting has never been that great to begin with. Either locally or nationally.

Raven you are correct about the page hits, but I hate that too.

My point though is that he arrogant enough to sit their and accuse the fans of "accepting mediocrity" He says it to their face because he in his "lofty perch" He assumes the team I love of being mediocre and I know thats not the case. He is arrogant and a bad writer. His articles are permiated with his own smug idiocy (like Richard Justice, but not as bad)

I could never do what a surgeon could do, either, but I expect the surgeon to perform his duties well.

At this point, the chronicle, and the city, would be best served if they shut down their sport's department entirely, and funneled those resources into other parts of the paper.

Negative, sir. Have you seen the posts on this site? Hate Solomon for being an idiot, but don't make the same dumb statements.

Like it or not, he has his job because he's actually a pretty good writer. Columnist? That may be a different story.

    *rubs chin*

Sounds more like an email between buddies. You know, an in-joke that you would laugh at if you knew Jerome.

For public consumption, the grammar and punctuation kills the humor.

    Repped for effort, though.

Newspapers are losing money. The Chronicle is made up of mostly bloggers now.

I disagree... all newspapers are suffering. As someone who writes for a living in the industry, I can vouch for that.

My professional opinion of the guy is that, yes his opinion is detestable sometimes, but his technique and style is pretty good. He’s not a bad reporter when he’s not focusing on negative items. In fact, it is good he's there to balance out Justice's over-the-top, ass kissing.

Also, from a journalistic stand point, the writers on Clutchfans fail to impress me. They don’t know the proper formats, styles, professional niche techniques that Solomon, a professional journalist, knows how to pull off. They also don’t go out and get information for themselves. They pull it from people like Solomon. So until you start insulting someone, why don’t you walk a mile in their shoes. Go out and get some fresh information on the Rockets yourself, without pulling it from fanzone or ESPN insider … or my fav, real GM. Until clutchfans start consistently doing their own reporting, a rare thing on this Web site, don't even bring that argument to the table.

What information do the likes of Solomon and Blineberry have that we don't? I don't recall any breaking news from Chronicle that we haven't already heard from other sources/leaks.

Plus, isn't it unfair to ask us ordinary fans to go get insider information? Being sports reporters, they must more or less have some connections inside the organization. And they have the luxury to sit there all day watching sports because it's their job, a luxury most of us fans don't have. But that doesn't mean we can tell the difference between a good sports writer and a bad one. Like Dr of Dunk said:

Sorry. Typo. "But that doesn't mean we can't tell..."

I know that his tone can be incredibly frustrating, and I don't like the tone that he often takes either, but let's see if he's wrong before anyone accuses him of being stupid, biased, accurate, etc..
