Do you guys think there will be a commitment to defense that was reminiscent of our past seasons? 10-14 wins is a lot to make up for and we will not get that without playing defense. I really hope that its just because this year was sort of a distraction in trying to figure out how to run the offense. But if our defensive intensity does not improve next season, we really won't have a chance. The phoenix suns are living proof that an offense only scheme will not win you a championship.

The Charlotte Bobcats have the best defense in the NBA this season I think. Are they going to win the championship?

Defense keeps you in the game and in a position to win day in and day out. Offense allows you to win the game. There is a reason why most agree that defense wins championships, because great defense puts you in the best position to be able to win consistently. When was the last time a run and gun team that was not at least above average on D won a ring?

I wish. You cannot be a champion unless you have good defense.

    Defense wins championships.

The people that don't understand this, will look dumb when the Bobcats beat the Lakers for a ring.

Jesus, people, no-one said you need to have the best defense to win. Why do people have to make extremes for arguments? No one said the bobcats would win it all. My point is a championship CAN NOT be won WITHOUT defense, not the best defense wins championships. There is a difference between the two statements. If you can't figure it out, don't even bother posting anymore.

If I have to spell it out for you. Not playing D will guarantee you that you won't win a championship. No one stated that playing D will guarantee you to win a championship.

The pertinent question is--does great defense sell tickets and put butts in the seat? How do you think JVG would answer that question?

Why wouldn't there be more commitment to defense? Morey is big on defense. Adelman's big on defense. Yao Ming is a great defensive player. The Rockets played solid defense this year before the trades, which really screwed up the chemistry.

Do you ever watch the NBA? Or do you just like to make ignorant statements for no particular reason?

The Rockets need shot blocking to improve defense. Chuck Hayes at center is not going to cut it.

I watch it a lot... a bunch of his teams are mainly known for their offense... motion offense... his defense isn't bad, it's secondary.

You've watch Adelman's Kings and Blazers play, and think his defenses are secondary!? I don't know how to respond because the notion is so absurd.

His defenses were ranked #2 three times, Ranked #3 twice. All his teams that made it past the first round feature top 10 defenses except one(the Chris Webber injured team). If you watched any Adelman's contending teams, you should know his defenses were VERY, VERY good.

RA's teams have been pretty good on defensive efficiency. In fact we had a better defensive rating last year than we ever did with JVG.

Adelman isn't a defensive minded coach. Thats why for the most part he will play an offensive guy before a defensive guy in most cases. You post ed those stats, but that in 20 yrs of work. How many times have jackson's teams been top 5 in defense?

Our defense concepts are horrible. Plus T.R. Dunn who is definitely not Tom T.. The coaching staff actually looks lost. Their only change is playing zone.

WEAKNESSES THAT REQUIRE IMMEDIATE CORRECTION NEXT YEAR
    1. Better PnR D by AB, dude sticks to screens like gum to sidewalks. Some adjustments on D will help, like placing a taller player on scoring PG's.
    2. Better concepts... Zones not just 2 -3, 3-2, or 1-3-1, switching Ariza/Shance onto players who are hot to slow them down a little
    3. A shot blocking presence, I'm not just talking about Yao. Varnado from Miss St. would be a great presence in the middle off the bench with Lowry, Hill, Budinger, and Shane. Enough offense, however, the D would keep us in the game
    4. Keep Yao fresh and not playing him over 30 minutes a game (this where Varnado comes in)
    5. Using some of the shot clock to make good teams play D. We bail them out shooting so quickly

Oh it was good, and some of his teams kick butt on D, but is it the playing or the coaching? Look at how the defense has suffered since losing JVG.

Not that I don't like Rick, I love him as the coach of the Rockets. But really, his defense is second to offense.
