    Some Finnish music:

I only did include music I personally enjoy. For example, there's tons of export quality Finnish metal music around, but I know next to nothing about it.

Didn't know you are from Finland! Out of the ones you posted, I like the "Don Johnson Big Band Road" one the most, the other ones are a little too "electronic" for me.

I've watched all the videos people posted, interesting. Thanks - keep them coming, please.

Oh, and Canada? That doesn't count! :)

Some Chinese pop I heard from about 3 years ago when I went back to visit. It's a cheesy love song about a robot falling in love w/ a girl. As you can see, C-pop music is pretty heavily influenced by the west.

I really thought this was a great idea.

Although I'm not living there now, Okinawa is my birthplace/home and where I went to mid/high school (and a tour in the Army).

First up: just an example of how music is everywhere, even at a restaurant bar. Not much of a music video but it brought back a lot of memories. The guy that posted the original video said it's like the soul of Okinawa.

    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4CsnKT2zVPQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4CsnKT2zVPQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Second up: Natsukawa Rimi singing Hana (Flower). You have to be a special person to sit through a song you don't understand (especially when its not even in your genre), but if I can convince you to give this lady a minute or two I think you'd enjoy here performance and voice..

One of the best metal songs incorporating our folk music (bits of it)

Every Chinese person knows this song... the Mandarin version was sung by Emil Chow and called 花心. Look it up.

I don't believe that at all. Sure there are some C-pop artists who copy Western genres, but for the most part they are completely different.

I don't know why I had to look up something that you were professing since this was a "sharing" thread, but I did anyway.

Listened to Emil's version. Okay for a GUY! j/k He has a great voice. Since I'm a Rimi fan, I like her slower version.

Thanks for that! I was interested and did enjoy Emil's. Oh, and I am easy. You should see me when I get worked up.

I didn't know miss Natsukawa was that popular in China. That's pretty cool.

I'll post an actual song to go along with the thread next, but thought I would post this first. I thought it was funny, yet somehow awesome.

-This Italian parody of a 60s/70s pop song is sung entirely in gibberish designed to sound like American English. If you've ever wondered what other people think Americans sound like, this is it.

I liked this song. It sounds similar to some Korean folk music to me.

The great Adriano Celentano! This is funny - the German contestants of the German equivalent of American idol (most of them are morons who don't speak a lick of English) did the same (resort to gibberish that was supposed to sound like American English) when they were incapable of mastering the text.

Here is one of Adriano Celentano's most famous songs (not his song originally, but his version was one of the more famous ones):

Oh, here's sinobball's Emil's version of the song. A great version.

    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SazBHQ-1h4U&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SazBHQ-1h4U&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

edit - folk music has more in common with other country's folk music than, say another genre from the same country. So I can see how this sounds familiar.

Here's a current "rap" song of German "gangsta rapper" Sido (well he used to try and be one, but you can see he is wearing glasses and a tie now...): "Der Himmel soll warten"

Typical of many musicians successful in Germany nowadays, he and the singer (Adel Tawil, who is of half Egyptian, half Tunisian background), he is from Berlin and also has a migration background (one of his parents is a Sinti).

Edit: Sorry about the huge size - I don't know how to change that. I put spoiler tags around it.
