Someone called Obama a purple lip buffoon. Not trying to offend anyone, but I appreciate if I could get any feedbacks on what you guys think of this comment
What do you think any sane person's reaction to that statement will be? First off, if your response to a politician and their policies is to poke fun at a physical attribute...then you probably have no real substantive argument. Secondly, I can only assume that the somebody that said that is a jackass.
Dude when somebody make arguments like that it nothing but a waist of time to argue with them. Save your energy and keep your stress level low. In other words smile, shake your head and walk away.
Wait, you spoke to T_J?? This is great news! Our boy finally busted out of that Mexican detention camp!
It is clear cut that this person does not like Obama, which is understandable. So thats out of the way. Now another person is saying this comment is racist. My point is I'm trying to find out is this comment racist?
No question it's racist. Making fun of the lips or noses or hair or eyes or whatever physical features of minorities is as American as apple pie.
Yes. There is no reason for him to mention Obama's lips unless he considers the color of his lips a negative trait. That would make it racist, I think. Can you imagine him saying, "Obama is a slender, 6-foot tall buffoon" or "Obama is a healthy-looking buffoon"?
If there is a reasonable explanation why "purple lips" isn't a reference to racial characteristics/skin tone, I would be interested in hearing it. Right now I'm trying to think of some set of events where it could be a non-racist comment, and I can't think of any.
I tried looking this up and I'll be damned if this isn't the first thing I found. Our Old Friends at FreeRepublic.com But apparently there is also some kind of medical condition related to it, although I'm not sure if it is prevalent in black men? This comment could be very racist, or it could be as harmless as someone pointing out Bill Clinton's red nose. It all depends on the intent/meaning, which I guess we'll never know.
Does it really matter? I don't know your relation with the person, but I'm guessing a bigot will say even more racist **** about Obama before 2012 ends. I'm not sure if casting out loudmouths is the best response to reducing ignorance and bigotry.
I have no relations to any parties. I was witnessing a few people debating. Person A said obama is a purple lip buffoon. Then person B said thats racist. Person A defends saying that comment is not racist. Person B said it is. They were bickering back and forth. Nothing else was said or added to this comment, I'm just questioning if that comment as is, is a racist comment? Me personally I'm not going to stress over it, if it is or isn't. I guess is for anyone to decide on their own.
The very fact that the only criticism this guy could muster was towards the color of Obama's lips tells you all you need to know. There's nothing wrong with a subsantive, factually based critique of Obama. That ain't it.
