Well, I was going to do a poll on this, but I forgot that the poll option is still off. How much do you like your job?? Do you: 1) Like it a lot? 2) Hate it with a passion? 3) Indifferent - it's a job that helps me pay the bills I would have to say #3 for me. I used to be not so crazy about my job, but after being there for over 2 and a half years and seeing some decent salary increases, I think my job is okay. The only thing I don't like about it is that there are lots of "down time" which can make the days go by incredibly slow and boost a post per day average. I remember reading somewhere that the average now for Americans (believe it was just Americans) in changing jobs is every 2 years. Personally, there is nothing more than I hate to do than update my resume and be contacting employers for any open positions. Having to do that is almost enough to make me say "no way in hell, will I quit my job."

1) Like it a lot? I love my job. As a part time worker and full time student, I have the perfect job. I work at EV1, an ISP in Houston in the technical support department. I make my own hours, since this company respects that school comes first, I come in, sit down and just take calls. I may get some hard calls once in awhile, or even get calls from people that dont deserve to own a computer. Good thing that u brought the subject up because I just got a raise last week, and think I make respectable pay now.
Me too...I hate being laid off. I'll update my post when I locate a job. It looks like it may be soon. <hoping and praying>
I hate it even more now that I have to work until 6pm instead of the usual 4-4:30pm. And if anyone from work is reading this, yes, I hate my job and I think my company is a stupid company. But I can't complain as I know there are those out there that are in a far worse situation. I hope some of you guys out there looking for a job get one soon - it sucks being unemployed. Now if these guys say I have to go traveling around the country, I'm gonna have a fit - let the peons do that! . lol.
I hate my job. Though school probably doesn't count as a job, does it? I'm getting a lot from it, but I still hate it. I don't like waking up early, taking art, or learning Spanish. (although it is cool to know another language.) 3 more years left of school and I'm done! Except I have to go to college then. My parents are making me. (though I am too.)
I like my job enough to keep going back so I can pick up a paycheck. ...My philosophy is I work to live...and not the opposite (like some people I know)
my jobs alright...just edit a bunch of stuff on a computer for any 6 hours of the day that i choose. goin to college in september and just livin it up.
I agree with you for the most part. Some days I enjoy my job a lot, very challenging, I learn a lot. Other days the people suck and there is nothing to do. Work is Work, I live for the weekends and vacation... and sick days
i think being a relief pitcher would be a great job. if you were good at it. or if they just put you in when your team was already losing 10-0, you could just go out there and jack around. but either way most of the time youd just be sitting on your ass most of the games, and youd get to travel around the country. as for my job, i install ceiling tile and move heavy furniture. im quitting in three days before i have to go back to school. ill go with 3 even though i have no bills. i do have a drinking problem though, so it helps with that.
Manny -- for every person like you who is unwilling to change jobs, there's someone like me who changes careers at the drop of a hat. Just a few of the jobs I've held: - newspaper editor - asst. manager of a clothing store - registered massage therapist - pet sitter - antique jewelry seller - Starbucks barista - intern at Justice Records - assistant at a law firm - public relations at the Better Business Bureau - and many, many more Unfortunately, I'm easily bored and I haven't yet figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I'm currently only semi-employed doing some writing work for Mr. JB. Although he's a really cool boss, I think I'm going to have to find a real job soon or he's going to get tired of supporting my lazy ass.
Wow, that sounds like a cool job there, Mrs. JB! I would like to know more about that one. What did you major in at college? Did Jeff major in music or journalism or something else?
i would actually be interested in changing careers... but its just too hard to get my foot in the door! my background is so specific (CS) that i can't break out of it!
Manny, Quit ya horsesh!t and stop changing names ya crazy bastid! Anyway, I like my job enough that I wish I didn't have to go back to school. I make more than my brother and my cousin and they are both college graduates. I don't really like school though. It is just like work, except you pay them. On the one hand I only have one more semester. But on the other hand, I have to take six classes and I don't know how good my prospects will be when I graduate. Add to that that I am thinking that I might not even want to go into engineering (I would love to work in television, as a director), and I am one confused college student on his last internship.
It was a pretty crappy job, actually. Justice was a Houston-based record label that focused mostly on jazz releases. Somwhere around '93 they decided to sign on a couple of rock/pop acts that they felt would appeal to a college market. My job was to call college radio stations across the country and try to badger them into playing Justice releases on their stations. A very thankless task. Since I was an intern, there was no pay, just free cds and t-shirts. At that point, I was about a year away from getting my journalism degree and they mentioned the possibility of actually hiring me for marketing when I graduated, but the company went bust before it could happen. It was probably for the best -- I'm not really a good salesperson. In answer to your question, both Jeff and I majored in journalism -- that's how we met.
My job rules. Want one like it? Here's the model: 1. Surround yourself with cool, smart, good people who are good at what they do and are a pleasure to work with. 2. Work your ass off for several years for free and convince the other people to do the same, on the grounds that it will be worth it. 3. Make it worth it. 4. Keep working. Remember why you're doing it and take care of your people. 5. Presto. You have a job you love and believe in and work every day with people you love and believe in. It doesn't pay quite as much as the day job you kept in the early years, but it will eventually. And the job satisfaction more than makes up for the pay cut. Just one (bat)man's take. Short answer: I love my job.
1) I like my job. I work in freaking sports, for chrissake. Someone actually pays me to surf ESPN and other sports sites all day. Plus, come football season, I actually have a foolproof excuse to watch as much football as possible. "Sorry, honey, but this is valuable research for work. I have to keep up with the top players." Not only that, but I actually get to talk sports all day, too, without fear of a reprimand. Also, most of the guys (and girls) I work with are around my age, which is key, IMO. Yeah, there are other benefits, too (like meeting players, reading about your work in magazines, etc.), but in order for me to really like my job (and this goes for every job I've had), the workplace has to be pleasant. If my co-workers weren't such great guys or if the working environment was a little more rigid than it is, I probably wouldn't like my job, to be honest. If I can't come in and out everyday with at least a neutral opinion of my workday (on average), I shouldn't be working there. Even if I had the greatest job in thr world. Well... unless the pay was excellent... You've gotta love where you work. After all, you're there most of the day...
