This isn't the shot blocking, athletic, young big that would be spelling Yao most of the time in his return. Brad would be a back up to the back up more than likely or play beside our young big balance the floor experience. If that makes sense. Either way he's not a permanent solution to our back up C problem.
As a replacement until Yao is fully healthy, I'm okay with it. I would rather he not be a rotation player going into the second half of next season though. Either draft a guy that can play some center (to be groomed over the first half of the season) or go after Marcus Camby, assuming Camby doesn't get a big offer somewhere. If Brad Miller and Scola play significant minutes combined in the frontcourt, our defense is going to be just as bad or worse than it was this season.
After reading some of the posts in this thread, it lets me know that a possible "Dwyane Wade to visit Houston" thread would get bashed. "Awful fit here, look at these stats", on some JCDenton bull****. *smh...*
OH hell yeah and then trade with Toronto to get Hedo in.. Then ask NO if we can have Peja for scraps.. Houston Kings / Sacramento Rockets here we come ... But honestly I would love for Miller to man the back up C spot.. We would have Yao only play 30min a game maybe less..
I guess it all depends on how much he's paid and how much he plays. If Brad Miller is logging more than 15 minutes a night for this team then they are in trouble. Brad Miller isn't very good at this point in his career and all his weaknesses will be compounded on this team while all his strengths don't particularly add much to this squad.
Agreed. However, anyone who we do bring on has to be capable of playing real minutes in the absence of Yao. Brad Miller's season of 82 games played with an avg. of 23.8 minutes fulfills that. If Yao were to go down, we truly can't take ourselves seriously with Andersen stepping up in the playoffs. Miller, definitely more so. Thanks for sharing.
I think we should be looking more of a shot blocking, rebounding center like Camby but Brad Miller is an upgrade over Andersen sadly.
I'd rather draft and find a player that will be much better than Brad Miller in the future, semi-build on him this coming up year and when Yao completely comes back we'll have a good backup big.
I have a hard time believing he would be a penny overpaid. Regardless, he was logging 8 more minutes than that for the Bulls and they are in the playoffs and the Rockets are not.
I agree with both of you and those who have similar feelings. However, for me, its all about a viable option as a backup C. What if we also pulled camby? Would you be opposed to running Yao/Scola and Camby/Miller? Brooks/Lowry Martin/Budinger Ariza/Battier Scola/Camby Yao/Miller (assuming Hill would get trade in this type of situation-- just for the sake of argument)
I like it. He can tutor Yao and Hill in the art of high post passing. Yao will have some of Magic in him. Magic taught Vlade who taught Brad who will now teach Yao.
I think we pick up someone like Brad Miller as our backup center and draft the athletic shot blocking big man that we have been looking for. There are too many big men with potential in this draft for Morey to pass up.
I'm not sure how you trade DA away, but I'd like to see Miller backing up Yao. How would this affect Chuck? I can't see him getting very many minutes if Miller and Yao take the majority of the C minutes. Would we even have the money to sign Chuck if we sign Miller??
