With Vengence and Refman's posts about their pets,(sorry Vengence, btw.) I started thinking about my favorite pet, my dog Smoky.(It may have been with an ey,instead of just y, but I like this one better. Besisdes, never had to spell his name.) I decided to create a thread where you could tell us about your pet. Here's mine: I had a dog named Smoky. Kind of a blackish dog, with some light brown in there. About medium sized. Pretty normal dog. Not big,not small, not smart, and not dumb.(well, I don't think he was dumb.) I got him when I was pretty young. Maybe about 4 or 5. We grew up together and he became my best friend. I would ride my bike and he would follow me. He was an outdoor dog, but if I decided to not get out of bed, my mom would "sick" him on me. He was always dirty and stinky, but that didn't bother me. He always wanted to protect us also. He ended up being kind of weird looking after a few fights. He had an ear and a half, and a torn tongue. One time his back legs got really swollen, maybe from a bite or something. But he wouldn't let us take him to the vet. He got worse and worse. My dad wanted to put him out of his misery, but my mom and I talked him out of it. Shortly after, he miraculously(sp?) got better. Maybe about 3 or so years ago, he ran away and probably died. (My mom thinks he went somewhere to die, so we wouldn't see him.) I think he was about 12 years old or so, so he wasn't young. Well there's my pet story. Kind of longer than I expected, though.
hahaha I was about to start the exact same thread a minute or so before you but I couldn't get a pic of my dog up on it. Anyways his name is Tyson and he is a Rott/Aus shepard mix. He looks exactly like a rott though but his lil snout is not as short. Maybe I'll try a lil later to get a pic up.
Oh yeah sorry about your dog. Thats cool that he protected you and stuff. My dog is a house dog? Do you think that will make him sorta scared of other dogs?Every time I take my dog out and he sees another dog he runs. Although I understand wy cuz they are usually bigger than him but one time he ran away from a female puppy that was smaller than him......what tha hell is up with that?He did buck up to a huge rott once but then he ran
Thanks. I never actually saw him dead, so in a way I have never at once accepted he was dead. I did it gradually. He could still be alive, but I doubt that. Every once in a while, he would "run away" but he always came back. He was probably overprotective of us,or at least me. When ever my friends would come over, I had to hold him so they could get in. He also followed me a lot. I appreciated it, but he would get in a fight with every dog around, so I had to sometimes trick him when I would leave. Pretty hard to do that, though.
My favorite pet is a Springer Spaniel we named Penny. We got her in 1986 when she was 6 weeks old. She is the best friend I ever had. When I was very sick with mononucleosis she hopped up onto the couch to make sure I had company. When I went off to college, my sister called me the next day and told me that Penny had gone right past my sister's room...into my room...then went back to my sister's room...peeked her head in the door and looked at my sister as to tell her that somebody (me) didn't come home last night. Every time I would come home from college for a visit, I would pull up in the driveway, I'd see the gate open and when I opened the car door the dog would be trying to hop in my lap. Damn I miss that dog. We had to put her to sleep in 2000. I still get misty eyed whenever I think about her. I have never cried as hard as I did when my Dad told me he had to put her down.
Whenever I would get back, my dog would try to jump on me too. (but it was pretty big, so it couldn't jump on me,more like into me.) Sorry to hear about it being put to sleep. That's one reason why I feel lucky that I never knew for sure if my dog was dead. Every once in a while, I'll think about him and cry a bit. But I would feel happy instead of sad. ok, where's my emmy. (just trying to change the mood.)
I'd like to thank the Academy for this award. Seriously though...that dog loved me just as much after I went off to college and would be gone for a month or so at a time. She never forgot. I learned a lot about how to love unconditionally by having that dog.
So only 5 people on the BBS have a pet, and one of them isn't even the right kind? . I wonder if anyone has a weird pet, like a snake or something.
I found a baby turtle the other day but I let him go cuz the last turtle I had shriveled up and died because I forgot to give him water. I didn't want to put another turtle through that torture. Does that count?
I guess. My cousins had some turtles. Also had some birds and a ferret. I didn't really like the ferret. Also remind me not to let you pet-sit for me. Although I have no pets.
Oh, she doesn't have a problem wanting a pet. She has a problem with being able to care for it, especially if its young. My mom's friend had a puppy that my mom said looked just like Smoky. She was going to give it to her, too. But my mom declined because of being able to care for it. Then she keeps telling me this, and I'm thinking she's an idiot. Not really, but she makes me want it too. I'll probably get a pet sometime, especially when I move out. We usually have fish, but they are all died, so we have nothing now.
