Yep. The Jets got Santonio for a 5th rounder, and these guys gave away 2 2nd rounders for Marshall? That's waaay too much.

You gotta admit, this whole Marshall thing was inevitable. When you have a coach who comes in and decides to alienate his two best players to send a message, something like this was bound to happen. I would say it's a miracle that you guys got two second rounders out of all this. At least you can build for the future with that.

Bzdelik leaving CU just plain sucks, but that's the reality when you're not a destination school......you just end up being a jumping stone.

We gave that much up for Matt Schaub. He wasn't even proven yet.

Marshall is a Pro bowler in his prime.

Sounds like a good deal for me. Or the FO overpaid for Schaub ;)

Not at all. Just disappoints me. And you're talking to someone who was ready to dump Marshall at numerous points last year. He's insane, but he's talented. If you can't get a first rounder for him, you keep him. It's that simple. Brandon's a headcase, but he's like a puppy. If you pat him on the head and tell him you love him, he'll be fine. If you yell at him, he's going to pee on the rug.

But no, our jackass head coach has to try to be Belichick. Hey McD -- Belichick WON. That's why he's allowed to be a prick. Until you win, you'd better be humble. The worst are the Kool Aid drinkers around Denver right now. You're seeing quotes like "We traded Cutler and Marshall and got two firsts, two seconds a third and Kyle Orton! And Orton's a better quarterback than Cutler!" or "McD won in New England without any star recievers" (that one's my favorite. I forgot that New England set all those records with the no name receiving combo of Randy Moss and Wes Welker -- those stiffs).

Sad, but true to it all. There was hope Bzzz would be different -- he did turn down an offer that was twice what CU offered him from Arkansas to stay in Colorado. It's more the timing than anything else. CU will never be a great basketball school, but we had a nice thing going. Student support was great last year and things were moving in the right direction. Now it's interesting to see where this heads.

You should go watch that video of him pouting at practice and punting the ball from last fall.

I thought Houston overpaid for Schaub as well. That said, they probably woud have pissed away the draft picks on Tony Hollings part deux anyways.

Texans did take a big risk getting Schaub but QBs are also on a completely different valuation structure.

Schaub is a ProBowler now, and if a team offered 2 first round picks for a pro bowl QB on any team (assuming he's in his prime and not a head case), their number would be call blocked forever.

    "We talking about Practice?!?"

He performs on the field though.

you wouldnt get a 1st for him. Plus, you are more than capable of finding a big talent in the second round...after all Marshall was a 4th rounder.

the problem is that he's an immature puppy...he needs to grow up and it doesnt look like it was going to happen.

It's a good move for Miami who only had Ginn and Hartline and Fasano. Marshall has shown he has hands, which is all the more important for Miami's short game.

I thought he wanted to play for Seattle and would have moaned about wanting a trade that would make his price go even lower, which would have been a single 2nd rounder. It's too bad we only got to see 1 good season of Cutler/Marshall, that combo had potential.

Don't forget about Bess. He came on strong towards the end of the season.

    Different market. Different position.

    Can't really compare the two.

And that isn't even going into the fact that this draft is crazy deep... and it looks like the Broncos robbed the Dolphins at freakin' gunpoint.

I realize we weren't getting a first. Which is why I said hang on to him. IMO, you don't trade away that much talent for second rounders.

And yeah, you're capable of finding a big talent in the second round. I just have ZERO faith in this front office finding talent anywhere. Last year's draft was pretty bad (and I realize it's only been one year and blah blah blah) and judging by the sounds coming out of Dove Valley right now, I'm not real encouraged about this year's effort either.

But they wanted to get rid of him so you get the best you can get. Two 2nd rounders is more than enough. Only a couple WRs in the league are worth a 1st round pick, and marshall isnt one of them.

I know the draft can make or break alot of teams, but sometimes I think draft picks are overrated (especially after 1st Round). You can find good players after the 1st Round, though the talent level drops so much overall that it is kind of crap shoot, especially after 2nd Round.

I mean given up a draft choice (after 1st) for an accomplished player who is also fairly young or even a franchise player (like Donovan McNabb or Randy Moss) is a great deal.

Really, how many rookies (after 1st and 2nd round) have the potential to be a top 10 player at a position, like QB, RB, WR, C, RT, TE, LB, NT, or DE?

It happens, but it is not as common as it is with first round.

If Larry Fitzgerald or Eli Manning are on the table for two 2nd round picks, I mean you have to almost do that deal, if you do not have good QB going into next season.

A quick scan of drafts from the last 2 decades on wikipedia makes it appear that a 1st round pick has about a 60-70% chance of making the pro bowl.

    Whereas a 2nd rounder has about a 20-30% chance.

From there chances get exponentially smaller. (3rd, 10%... 4th, 5%... and so on)

Draft picks are way overrated. The chance of you getting a 1st rounder who you will have PAY (who hasn't done squat yet), being better then Marshall are low.

They fact that guys like faulk, moss, mcnabb etc go for 2nd and 3rd rounders baffle me.

This is spot on. Marshall has all the tools but most importantly he's in the prime of his career. He just turned 26. He's already one of the top 5 best receivers in the game IMO. Not only is he a deep threat but his physicality makes him a beast to turn short passes into TD's. With Owens, Moss, Cinco, Wayne, Smitty, Ward, Boldin etc all getting up there in age I think the battle for best receiver in the game will be between Andre Johnson (for next couple years turns 29 before next season) after that it's Fitzgerald, Megatron and Marshall for the next 5-6 years

Two second round picks is NOT very much at all for a young, proven, HOF talent worthy receiver even with some baggage considering the number of bust WR's picked early. Just off the top of my head... Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, Reggie Williams, Troy Williamson, Ted Ginn, DHB. I think all those players were top 10 picks as well. Yikes!
