I've always wanted to go, and I think I will this Summer. Anyone ever been? Recently? What are the costs involved during the summer? Opinions?
If you like to party, it's the perfect place for you. You would fly all the way from the US? What would your expectation be?
Would I fly from the US? Sure, why not. My expectation- gorgeous Spanish beaches and world-class clubs.
I went to Ibiza a few years back. We flew in from Barcelona for perhaps the craziest 36 hours of my life. There are some really sweet secluded beaches there. I believe that there are a lot of Polish workers that come to Ibiza to drive private taxis (illegal technically) for the summer. We hired this one Polish guy from a nearby beach. He turned out to be a great source for party favors and he took us out to this absolutely crazy-hippie-mushroom restaurant called Namaste. That is a MUST. We went out after Namaste to Privilege http://www.privilegeibiza.com/. I forget who was there that night, Tiesto or Oakenfold, someone like that. Huge club. All in all a good 36 hours of straight partying. Everyone on the flight back to Barcelona looked like they had been up all night.
I used to dig the scene they promote of Ibiza. Watching an E! show, once I saw a shirtless guy with body paint swinging on a trapeze from the ceiling dropping foam on the crowd maybe blowing bubbles, that helped scale back the interest. But I wont hate. If you can pull off non-stop days of partying, give that a go.
I haven't been to Ibiza personally but what I gather from friends etc. is that the amount of brits heavily depends where are you staying and what clubs you go to. San Antonio = lots o brits Ibiza town? (not sure what is called) = less brits Privilege, Amnesia = Lots of e-tards and drunk brits Space, Pacha = More ""civilized", not as cheesy music My info might be a little bit old, haven't followed the club scene that hard in years.
You'd better start gobbling up MDMA soon to build up a tolerance. Jus' sayin'... (Don't do drugs, kids. Seriously. They're bad. Real bad.)
Language barrier? I gather not since it's a big British holiday spot. My Spanish is pretty halting, and it's the Tex-Mex dialect.
