I am sorry to say this: worst trade proposal this year (so far, sigh). Were you drunk when you typed this?
I'm good with building through the draft, it might take a little longer but then the players are "our guys." I don't know why, I just never will like player like Kevin Martin as much as a Carl Landry. That said, a championship could make me forget all that.
Al jefferson should someone we should also really consider. He's also gonna b a lot cheaper than any of the guys you've thrown out there
Why would we trade for another "future" point guard when our current one is blossoming in his 1st year? Not to mention lowry finishing games. Morey would be a idiot to take a risk like that on someone who hasn't played a NBA game
FYI, unless it is a draft day deal, Morey will have to make that pick himself. If it's for a sign-and-trade involving outside free agents, then it won't be a "pick". It'll be the player selected by Morey. I could not disagree more. With the addition of Kevin Martin (a weak defender) alongside Brooks (another weak defender), a guy like Ariza or Battier is the PERFECT starting SF for this team. Plus, give Ariza a chance to play even one freakin' game with Yao before casting him off as some "negative" to be dumped in a trade. Is he a star? Hell no. But is he a competent fifth starter on a contending team. Hell yes. He'll certainly try. But I don't see a team with a top 3 pick WANTING to trade down, even if it's for multiple "pretty good" assets. A guy like John Wall or Evan Turner is a franchise-changer. No way they give that up for multiple solid players. Perhaps Morey can get the Rockets up into the 6-9 range, but even that will require multiple assets to do so. Plus, I don't know if Morey "loves" a guy in that range enough to give up the assets it would take to get there. He can probably get a somewhat comparable player at 14 and just keep Hill and/or Budinger for another trade this summer or to keep on the team. A great player? A Center? To back up Yao? Frankly, I don't think Dwight Howard (who may be the only player who fits your description) will want to come to Houston to back up Yao Ming. Plus, there's that whole thing with Orlando not wanting to trade him and all. Actually, Jefferson is making a ton of money on a long-term deal. Even a maxed-out Bosh would not make significantly more money than Jefferson. More, true. But not a ton more. And, frankly, I'd rather pay a little more for Bosh than to take a chance on Jefferson and his injury history.
They could potentially move up into the 10-5 area or move back to grab multiple picks from Miami at #15 and #17 or with Minnesota at #16 and #24. A ton of scenarios could playout. Way too early to tell.
I love Al Jefferson but he has had a worst injury history then Yao has. We have a recovering Yao and a still questionable Martin, I'd rather not add a third player to the DNP list.
Also not a fan of trading away another pick especially since a lot of those realistically available to us aren't worth it.
Morey said it himself, he's looking for upgrades. I doubt we would trade our picks for role players that are worst or same as our current roster. NY pick is going to be high this year and statistically speaking Nets has the better chance to land number 1 pick. NY could very well be in top 1-5, mostly likely 2 or 3. top 2 or 3rd pick is very sweet trading bait for teams that are rebuilding or restarting.
Sorry to break it to you but The Jazz own this years Knicks first round pick We get to flip flop first round picks in the 2011 draft.
Our first option has to be a legit 7'0" Center to share time and potentially take over the starting role for Yao. I love Yao, but his days are numbered in the NBA due to his genetics and you know the Rockets management are preparing to move on fast if they need to. If you listened to any of Morey's recent interviews he has said multiple times that this year and 2012 are the best bets for Centers through the draft. There still is a possibility of a sign and trade with a free agent out there but Morey must be realistic about his options with a big name like Bosh or Amare and whether he would be willing to break the bank with them. There will be a slight chance, but it is not likely. But, like I have said before, if Jordan Hill could improve significantly over the summer, he could single handed give the Rockets exactly what they need in the short term. But he is still a long shot, and might need another year to become a factor. If was Leslie A or Morey, I would be doing everything in my will to get Hakeem and Deke to spend some time this summer to work with him.
IMO, this really all depends on what Lowry does. If he leaves for a starting job elsewhere, I'd start shuffling around the roster. Brooks is great, but we need more defensively then him and a D-League All-Star. Perhaps we can use the MLE/LLE for a backup, but I'd be more willing to make a big change under that scenario. If Lowry stays, I really don't want to make that big of a move. I just feel like our prospects are too good (Budinger & Hill specifically) and are only real need is a backup C. Why can't we get that from the draft or small trade. Somebody mentioned Randolph....I like, although I'd maybe try and send Taylor and Andersen for him before giving up the draft. I can see GS taking that, though most teams wouldn't. And this is just my opinion, I'm no Morey, and I have to admit that I tend to not really like giving up rotation players. Exceptions would be Hayes, Andersen, Ariza, and Taylor off the current roster.
I would love to see the rockets draft a young athletic 4/5 who can help limit Yao's minutes and lengthen his career. But I still see the rockets and Morey drafting the best available at which ever pick they have. It should be an interesting and exciting draft for rocket fans, with Morey going into the draft armed with all of the New York draft assets he aquired at the trade deadline.
You cant be serious. Iggy is nowhere near that valuable. He's good, but has a weak shot and is severely lacking in the efficiency dept. Oh, not to mention hes extremely TO prone. Morey would NEVER give up that much for AI 2.0.
He does have another year. Shooting for the ring, the regular season isn't that important. Our draft pick also get a year, as long as we don't pull a D'antoni on him and leave him on the bench all year. Look at Chase - he could contribute in the playoffs this year (were we actually IN them), and he was a SECOND ROUNDER!
Don't care. Morey knows what he's doing. If no star player can be acquired, 14th pick is more than likely to get you a role player anyway. A role player who needs to be developed for a role player who is already developed, no big deal.
