Not flaws, but you are right I am just speaking for myself. TO ME, it doesn't make whole lot sense to dole out 500 bucks or more to buy a 10 inch TV and a browser. My netbook does those things adequately for me already at home. Now travel-wise, I don't watch much TV to begin w/, so for me it is less appealing for TV/movie on the go. Again, if I really want to do it, I can use my netbook. For reading, yeah, I still like hardcover paper. Now, if this thing has some potential to have textbooks for school in there, it would make whole lot more sense to have e-version of those thing for sake of convenience. Unfortunately, production is not a thing ipde prime for, no stylus, no multitasking, no keyboard, etc.
I have a different reason for not wanting to buy this. I own an iPhone, which pretty much does the same things as the iPad. Now, if I didn't own an iPhone, I would most certainly go after one of these and then jailbreak it. The reason I would want one of these right now would be because I would be looking for a tablet, and the only tablet out right now that's worth even looking at is this one. There's a shot I would wait for it if I was really considering buying it because I usually spend my money wisely when it comes to buying electronics, but I just see the nativity of the App Store along with all the Apps, the video playback, and the simplistic ease of use of the iPad as some of the reasons why I would consider buying it. We all have our own reasons and opinions for buying things though.
I own a lenovo tablet x-61. You definitely should consider it as an option. The new lenovo tablet has a detachable screen that looks like functioning the ipda, but I don't know the details about it. What I can vouch for is the build quality of Lenovo. Absolute fantastic. I have this thing for a little more than 2 years now, run as quite as a church mouse. Loving it.
there is a wepad, but i'm not sure if its sold in the states yet. Seems very similar to the ipad but has usb and uses android
Yeah I've been talking about the U1 Hybrid which is that detachable screen one with Windows and Linux, comes out June or July I think.
IMHO, the Chinese got it right in terms of use. Now the thing obvious has a lot of room to improve, but the potential is there. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lq6tcOUm3h0&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lq6tcOUm3h0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Screen is just like the iPhone...no concerns about breaking or scratching it. I've had my iPhone for 2 years with no case or screen protector and it's held up quite nicely, so I expect the same out of the iPad.
You have access to a lot of college textbooks through the amazon kindle store....haven't checked to see the depth of it, but I know there are plenty, specially in the sciences.
It's not different. The point is, MS folks hating on apple products because they are involve in anti-competitive practices is somewhat disingenuous, in my opinion.
Why assume that people hating on the iPad are all MS fans? Why can't it be people who aren't fanboys of either company?
Maybe so, if I believed that, but possible. Too much being made of a somewhat innocuous statement/observation. We could discuss it, I guess, if it were more worthwhile. As it is, it was just a statement, not a desire for a nerd fight, and certainly not worthy of deflection or really even being addressed really as it was rhetorical sarcasm. Sorry I stated my point now, which I thought was rather poignant and relevant to the post I originally addressed, but apparently it was a bit much for some. Apologies for the flaming rhetoric.
Tried one out at the Apple Store at First Colony Mall. The weight surprised me. Seems like a neat device but ain't no way I'm paying $499.00 for something like this that is Wi-Fi only. If the 3G model was priced at $399.00 with $30.00/month unlimited data, I might be tempted to buy it. I wasn't totally blown away at all. Betcha Apple will have to reduce the price relatively soon to keep the sales rolling. The only use it would have in my family would be to give my wife easy access to the internet (since she doesn't get on our computers often). I'll play with one again in a couple of weeks, but my first impression was underwhelming compared to the hype.
I have a MacBook and an iPhone at home but I'm reading this thread from my iPhone because it is more convenient. I could see myself using an iPad for the convenience factor but I have no plans to buy one... yet.

For 3G that's a lot, I've had my iPhone for about a year and have downloaded 1.1 GB over 3G. There could be iPad apps that use more bandwidth but I doubt it would be drastically more. Anything that I would do that requires a lot of bandwidth I would just wait until I had access to a wireless network.
Got an iPad for fathers day. Typing from it now. Wifi + 3G. 16 GB. So far, awesome. Will someone come out with a better "tablet" computer soon? Maybe. But apple sure does it nice, makes it easy for not so tech savvy and we are slowly moving towards apple anyway at home. Price wasn't a huge issue as it's a gift. These types of tablets are the way of the future, I think. And Suprisingly useful already for business purposes. WSJ, Bloomberg, FT just as initial free basic apps. Haven't dug around much yet but will certainly add a bunch more. iBooks seems very intuitive and easy to use. Unfortunately, Houston libraries mostly use overdrive, which isn't enormously Mac friendly but apparently they will be coming out with an app soon, which means I won't have to pay for that many books anyway. Any thoughts on the best note taking app? I'm pretty big note taker in meetings and would love to replace paper notebooks for good. What about best cases? Lookingfor something somewhat professional looking, with a cover that flips to cover the screen and ideally flips back to create a stand. Any other tips or tricks for beginner ipad user? I wont do any complex jailbreak type stuff yet but any other tips are helpful.
