I don't think we could get him. From what I heard, he would play for the Blazers or Lakers. Though we could possibly trade for him. (though I doubt that would happend.)

That said, I wouldn't mind him being a mentor to Yao Ming. It would probably help since both are alike in some ways.

He's probably still better than some C's.

I would offer the MCE to his agent RIGHT NOW!!!!

Sabonis is a guy who can give you 10-15 minutes a game..maybe even 20 or so in a pinch.

Especially if Cato is part of any kind of trade.....

The Blazers still have his rights so they can pay him more than anyone else.

If sabas is in any condition to play and if he is willing to take a very short-term, relatively cheap deal, I say why not? He definitely has a great knowledge of the game. Still, he's doesnt seem to talk much, so I'm not sure how good he'll be at giving pointers to ming.

Is he really broke? He has some businesses in Lithuania that seemed to be doing well. I was just at his hotel in Palanga last year. Seemed to be doing ok. But you never know.

I don't think he's broke enough to go back to the Jailblazers.

Only interest I would have in Sabonis is if we could release Collier for him...that would be great!

In the article, it said that he got bored for staying oversea. He probably missed playing b ball that all. It is ridiculous to hear a b ball player went broke. :p

Sabonis would be a great back-up/mentor to Ming. However, I'm sure he's looking at Lakers hard and opportunity to win a ring.

Errr... if we were a contender, then yes. Since we're not, no.

It just wouldn't be worth Les's money.

I love Sabonis. He's old and creaky, but he's smart, his shot's money and I love him. And I'd happily give him the MCE. But if he comes back, it'll be for more than that. And it'll be for Portland or LA.

sabonis is back only as a part time backup candidate behind DD, and kemp. he's a 320 pound 7"4 long tree i think he'll only play against the likes of lakers or the spurs who have those big guys.

Great idea RR...I think having him as a backup/mentor for Yao would be a great thing.

I wonder how much it would tak to sign him.

At the front of the season would you start Sabonis? or Start Cato and bring in Sabonis first then let Ming follow?

What are your thoughts on that?

On ESPN NEWS, one of the NBA guys says the Blazers and Sabonis are looking at 6 to 8million dollars a year.

He also said would they do that for a backup center.

In response to Sofine's post, I'd have to know who's doing better on camp. Sabonis and Ming could probably run the offense, while Cato couldn't, but Cato would be able to play more and possibly better. Maybe. Could be. :)
