And oh snap! I was at that show as well! As I recall Axl spouted off some stuff about INXS, still amazing to see them with that line up.

Yes, insulted INXS, kicked the monitors off the stage, and they played for, what, 30 minutes as well? Such a shame- G&R had the talent and the "it" to be one of the all-time great bands, I mean really all-time great. Instead, by all accounts, Axl had to be a complete a** most of the time, in spite of his ability to write great songs.

Iggy Pop was the best out of everyone- personal fave is the Smithereens- God, I must have seen that group 8-10 times in Houston arenas and clubs- Sam's Boat, Back Alley, Cardis, Cullen Auditorium at the U of H campus, you name it:

Too many outside people pointed to him- Kurt Cobain, Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick (said that G&R stayed at his house one time when they were on tour early in their career, called Axl a "complete a**" while mentioning how cool everyone else was), James Hetfield from Metallica ("We learned from G&R all the things NOT to do..."), etc. He ruined that band. Yet, he was one of the great songwriters and vocalists, but he needed Slash and Izzy. Very few albums scream "classic rock" and "raw, punk mindf**k" like Appetite For Destruction.

One more here. Always will be. A little bent they're skipping Austin again, but I'll see them at the woodlands.

Saw Grace Under Pressure at the Texas Jam in the Dome and have missed few if any shows since. Just awesome. Always so good.

So, I just scored tickets on the 8th row on Alex's side. We went with the VIP packages on TicketMaster. I had zero luck with the other pre-sales for general tickets. It costs a little more but not that much...and I get all this merchandise including shirt, tour book, new documentary DVD, new songs, guitar pics, etc. .

I get to watch the master work his magic from pretty close. I never have luck getting good seats on Alex's side...so this is really cool.

    I'm stoked!!!

    How much was VIP?

I paid $185 (face value) for Orchestra seats, 25th row at their Sept 3 show.

I think it was about $290.

    Edit: It was actually $320.

man Surf...I love that band (in my top 5) but aint now way in hell I pay that much for seats anymore. I love the atmosphere on the hill. Anyone that is going wants to swing by and say hi, Im normally always dead center towards the bottom, bunch of old hippies.

I'm usually at the top of the hill....closest to the bar... :)

Like any other drummer, I worshiped Rush back in my high school days (80's) but kind of phased out of them after that. The last 3 or 4 years, I've brought out all my old cassettes and converted them to CD's and then into MP3's. Now they're all in my regular mix on my iPod.

I saw them at the Woodlands in 2007. That was my 5th Rush concert to see, but the 1st since the Power Windows tour. I wasn't dissappointed. Especially when they dragged out Witch Hunt. Witch Hunt?? Are you kidding me?? I literally got chills hearing Alex's opening riff to that song. Awesome.

I will definitely check them out this time around. I'm a fan again.

Well...besides playing the MP album in its entirety (which fans have been clamoring to see them play "The Camera Eye" for several years now and they finally will)...another more important gem (in my view, anyway) was just announced by Alex and will be played. This brings it all home to me. This is going to be awesome! Don't expect verbatim versions of the above song and the one in the spoiler tag below...as Alex said they will change them up some to make them feel a little fresher. Obviously, the changes would have to be subtle. I wish Rush would do another multi-song medley. That R30 medley to start the R30 concert was really cool.

    Jacob's Ladder

As far as sitting on the hill, the bottom line is the sound sucks from hill and I need it louder. Last time I was on the hill...you could barely hear it unless you were at the front of the hill. Otherwise, you could hear people talking over it.

I believe they've added a bunch of new speakers on the hill and they've put them in spots that are spread out so that the sound on the hill isn't nearly as bad as it used to be.

Frankly, I wish they'd burn that place down and just have every concert at TC. I don't know who decided that building an outdoor concert venue (45 minutes north of town) so we could all sweat our asses off in the middle of a Houston summer would be a good idea. But that's another thread.

Yea...I have never actually been to Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion in Houston. My experiences were at Superpages.com Center in Dallas and I couldn't believe how low the sound was on the hill from the middle on up. I was born and raised in Houston living there till I was 18. I went to tons of concerts in Houston...but almost all of them were at The Summit with a few at the Astrodome and a few at the Sam Houston Coliseum. I never got to see a show at the Pavillion.
