OK... We're roughly 1.5 years in, and there is ALOT of "opinions" floating around these days. Whether you: -Agree -Disagree -Approve Of -Hate -Love -Resent Or Whatever... Let's hear about it right here. All view points are welcome. If you're a birther let's hear it. If Young Jezzy's "My President Is Black" is your favorite song, come sing it. Let's talk OBAMA
Sarcastic? After reading this D&D thing it seems to me that there are a lot of opinions about our POTUS. However, those opinions are always seem to appear out of context. So I thought this would help; where the only context is, well... Obama. So basically, you won't have to misinterpret or twist facts of a poll/article to prove your point about Obama. Just post, explain, and debate. No?
Obama is about what I expected before voting for him. A little more of a centrist and a little more of a pragmatist than I envisioned, but I'm still very happy that he's the President.
Although my opinion of him is favorable (>50%), it has gone down considerably since the eve of his election in '08. Although a health care bill got passed, it's nowhere near the major changes needed to fix the system. In the future these may be addressed but since the GOP launched an attack so soon, they've controlled and heckled the debate since the beginning. On financial reform he is a disaster imo. Nothing has been to done to change the system that will prevent an even greater meltdown in the near future. On the 2 wars, I'm scared of his huge executive overstep in having an American killed without due process, his reliance on drones to conduct remote-controlled warfare, letting Afgh still grow poppy/using Karzai's corrupt admin, not closing Guantanmo, 9/11 trial in NYC, etc. Lastly, too meek to take on the Israeli lobby and Israel itself to have actual changes in the ME crises; the giant is subservient to the mouse.
Obama has proven thus far to be more centrist than I thought, and he isn't a stiff hardliner the way Gore or Kerry would have been. He is very likeable. Speaks well generally, and is very intelligent... I give Palin a slight edge though. She is incredible.
As far as presidential duties and ideas go, he's not an exceptional president... but he has that confidence, and voice that really goes a long way in politics...
Good criticisms. I agree with most of them, particularly the intelligence, executive power, and financial reform ones. I'm a little more lenient on health care since we all knew the Repubs were going to throw a hissy fit and lots of money was going to be arrayed against reform. Perhaps there could have been a better bill, but I think only marginally so. This was a good first step and it will be easier to incrementally change in the future. Not my desire by any means, but probably the politically realistic outcome. I will say it is absolutely huge that anything got passed. Great presidents and talented presidents and smart presidents had repeatedly failed on this issue. On the ME, I think he's done just enough to keep it from becoming a huge priority. I expect him to tackle it with more gusto at some point, but I think he had to decide what to focus on and clearly health care has been the #1 priority so far. Now to financial reform and what to do about Iraq and Afghanistan, which will necessarily affect the ME.
I think he may go down as one of the worst we have EVER had!!! Anyone thinking he is a centrist has no clue. He is the most leftist person to ever hold the office. Definitely a one term President!!! I just pray he doesn't bankrupt us before November 2012!!!
I'm satisfied with what he's done so far. He thinks broadly, whereas others think narrowly. I'd take him as president any day over Johnny or "Paris" Palin.
He is what I thought he was (Dennis Green voice). I was wondering how long it was going to take him to realize that the right won't negotiate with him, so it was a big waist of time trying to be bipartisan.
