MTV is showing a special called "True Life: Street Racer" which shows the life of underground street racing in California. MTV cameras are actually at the races and filming illegal activities! Maybe I don't know the subtle nuances of the law, but can the racers (whose names and faces are revealed, nothing is concealed except last names) be arrested after the fact? Is MTV really allowed to tape illegal activites and air them for profit? Any lawyers out there that can explain?

I just finished watching "The Fast and the Furious" on STARZ and this happened to be on right after it on MTV... man I really wanna jump in my 'stang and fly down Mopac right about now!

    edit:
by the way, these racers are talking to the cameras and are 100% comfortable with their presence. They're revealing "tricks of the trade" and everything. Hmm... I wonder if they signed some documentation with MTV in which they were promised immunity from any potential legal backlash.

I really don't think the law can do anything after the fact...

They have to get caught in the act, it's like drugs, you can be taped smoking a ton of weed, shooting up some heroin, or be sniffing up some crack, but unless the police catch you while doing the act they can't do diddly squat...

Here's an interesting article about street racing...

Some of the racers thought the writters were undercover cops, and still didn't even bother trying to hide anything.

If not i'm in trouble :p

Dangit, I blew out my head gasket this morning and had to order a set of upper head gaskets...flush another $100.00 and the weekend tearing apart that 302...On the other hand...I can't wait to get it going with full compression again. Maybe I'll do a little "tweaking" while I have her in surgery...:D

I just watched the last segment where the cops are writing tickets for illegal modifications.

One of the tickets was for colored headlights (blue/spearmint/whatever)...so I'm wondering can anyone just get pulled over or are the cops being hard on the street racers?

I want to do some exterior lighting mods :D

i have a feeling the cops were being extra hard on the street racers... b/c don't many factory model BMWs have blue tinted headlights? they can't be illegal...

They're called Xenon headlights, I believe... I think it's the lights themselves, not a tinted cover, that makes the difference.

Of course, I also think the kind of people who have tinted headlights are a lot more likely to be ticketed and/or harassed by the police than the kind of people who have BMWs with Xenon headlights. So the difference may not be in the headlights. It may be in the drivers.

Why anyone would want blue headlights is still beyond me. I always thought the point of headlights was to help you see at night.

Those guys on that MTV real life show were pretty amusing. Pouring thousands of dollars into a crappy, early-90's Integra, and like a 90 CRX! If they like speed, then they should go for a Z-28 and save themselves the trouble.

Or if you're like me, you'll opt for a Tahoe so you can do this on game days:

I'm thinking about buying Xenon bulbs which supposedly give the look of the HID headlights found on BMW's. I'd never tint the headlight cover...that's hillarious.

Yeah it amazes me, the guy who they taped the most had spent over 50,000-60,000 dollars on modifications to his car and he still only got 320 horsepower AFTER spraying nitrous oxide (which totally ****s up your engine after a awhile) out of his little Integra. Gimme a break! Why doesnt he just go get a Viper and smoke everyones ass?

SCF, are you talking about the guy with the wheel on the right side?

I could never drive a stick if I had to use my left hand to shift. I was surprised to see very few Asians during the show (I mean these are Honda's and Acura's after all). Must have missed that if they did show them.

Hate on the guys who use them to race, not on the cars. I'm a Honda/Acura person :D

I like Acuras, just not those tricked out lawnmowers. If I want speed and performance, I'll get a real car.

Dude, my friend is running a JDM Turbocharged engine in his integrawhich gives 298hp at the wheels with 9 boost and with maximum boost-it's 704 hp; translates to 9.89 in the qtr.
