I picked up 2 pounds for $4 up here in Seattle. I made a compote with contreau, lemon juice, lemon zest, and a bit of brown sugar. I pulled out the strawberries when they had just started to soften up then I strained out the liquid, which I reduced to a nice zesty strawberry syrup.

The grocery store also had angel food cake cups on sale, so I picked up a dozen of those. I just filled the cups with the strawberries, put on a dollop of whipped cream, and then drizzled the strawberry syrup on top. We had family over, so it was the perfect amount for dessert. Tres bien and pretty healthy too.

We had leftover strawberry syrup which is going to make frozen strawberry margaritas tonight.

While I was at Kroger, a little old lady (80+) randomly came up to me and was super excited about the good deal on strawberries. She took me over and showed me the price, and continued to tell me how at her age living on a fixed income is hard to buy fresh fruit all the time, but these prices were too good to pass. I bought some just to shut her up, lol.

    I know... cool story, bro.

You should do your version of Jamie Oliver and do a 'Feed the Starving People of Africa Strawberries Revolution".

You can ship them via cargo ship. It should take about two weeks to get there. I'm sure they'll love to eat moldy, rotten strawberries.

You do know you can freeze them right?

It an example of waste in the US in general. I hope you can think about visiting a couple of these sites.

Sorry to bump this thread again, but I saw 4 pound crates of strawberries last night at Costco for $5. Had to buy a few of those. We'll freeze some, eat some, and my wife will make strawberry jam with the rest.

This is the captain speaking. Some misguided sailors on this ship still think they can pull a fast one on me. Well, they're very much mistaken. Since you've taken this course, the innocent will be punished with the guilty. There will be no liberty for any member of this crew for three months. I will not be made a fool of! Do you hear me?
