I don't think anyone actually got what the article said. It said that Brooks has been the "franchise player" this year with Yao out. That doesn't mean he is a general franchise player. It means that he has been playing the role of a franchise player for this team this year. No more, no less. Prospects are good next year should Yao return even close to form.
You probably didn't even realize, judging by your response, but you just contradicted yourself in one sentence. Way to go. First you say "it doesn't"(literally), then you inherently say "it does" by referring back to the number of posts. Congratulations.
I can see how "franchise player" can get taken out of context. In football, when Tom Brady was out and Matt Cassel took over and performed well, if they said Cassel is the "franchise player" everyone would be saying WTF no way. The "franchise" label is different in basketball because 1 main player can factor into team performance. It can just mean "most central integral player". Doesnt mean you have to slob his knob and build the team around him.
hes developed into a frachise-esque type player over the season but we're in trouble if he were to be the franchise player hes grown leaps and bounds this year its been great to see his maturation this year, unbelievable growth my main criticism is how he lets big PG's like Deron Williams tonite can take him outa his game.. hopefully he can kill these sorry ass jazz tonite
I think Brooks' level of solid play and production throughout his career will be tied to his minutes. If he plays 25-33 minutes a games, with Yao back and a solid team top to bottom, he can average 20 and 8 assists. If he has to play 40 minutes a night while carrying the offensive load, he'll be more prone to turnovers, he'll get abused defensively and he'll start making bad decisions. Long story short, the guy is a really streaky player and I think in him and Lowry together we have 1 championship PG.
Nash, Williams, Paul, Kidd, Rondo, Parker, Billups, and Rose are all clearly better than Brooks. Then you have players like Evans, Jennings, Collison, Baron Davis, Mo Williams, and Conley who are arguably at the same level, if not better. It's a stretch to say he's one of the ten best PG's in the league. The majority of Spurs fans wouldn't trade George Hill for Brooks. He actually is best suited as a 6th man. Sure, with his shooting ability, he'd be highly effective playing alongside Yao (assuming it's not his responsibility to make the entry pass to Yao). However, relegating him into a spot up shooter does not maximize Brooks' talents. He would serve the team best by running the offense after Yao sits down.
Great players are great in two dimensions - while Aaron Brooks need to learn how to be a better (or even just an average) defender.
I see the same dummies are trying to still say brooks is perfectly suited for the 6th man as if they know anything about basketball. Comparing brooks to bobby jackson is dumb. Did the guy making this comparison see jackson in denver. Comparing him to terry, who is a really good player, is out of context. Wasnt terry the starting pg on the mavs team that went to the finals? Keep going, you're only making yourself look dumb.
Brooks has really stepped up his game and has played well this year, but he is not even in the neighborhood of franchise player. The problem next year will be AB remembering that he is not the franchise player and becoming a more well-rounded player by re-directing some energy to playing D.
If there are a pack a women walking together and someone started calling them ho's, only the ho's would respond. Fact of the matter in you're failed logic is terry was the 2nd best player on a team that went to the finals and the 2nd best player on a 67 win team. The ignorant bobby jackson comment isnt even worth replying to.
Comparing Brooks to Terry is ok. Terry is a more an SG in size and also style, while it seems Brooks is a better passer than Terry and is probably more of a positive to the offense running as a unit. I love AB, but I do think Russel Westbrook is has a higher ceiling because of his physical tools. He has speed and everything else, where AB always may be slightly limited because of lack of height.
Ho's might respond. So might people who have a problem with people disrespecting women. In any case, if you can't rationalize your opinions, then your opinion has no merit.
I have the feeling I could put up pretty decent assist numbers on a team with Kevin Durant. And I'm a terrible passer.
