Just wanted to point out that that's one historical point of view you're presenting, albeit the one that the government wants us all to believe.

You could just as easily propose that the Civil Rights Act came into law after the blacks stood up for themselves violently, a la the Black Panthers, nation of Islam, setting Los Angeles on fire, etc.... You can't assume it was the peaceful protestors that caused the change when there were plenty of non-peaceful protestors active at the exact same time.

I'm not saying one or the other, just throwing that out there.

 

??? There are plenty of other more likely reasons that some sports are dominated by blacks in this country. One that springs to mind very easily is the socio-economic makeup of black communities (as a result of history, not race) leading to poorer education and more focus on sports as a means to get out of the ghetto. In my neighborhood, kids literally play ball ALL day EVERY day all summer long on one beat-ass court behind an abandoned building. In the same town, in suburbia, every house has a basketball hoop in the driveway, and never anyone playing on them. Another factor could be the availability of video games.

The point is correlation does not imply causality. There are many reasons for black people to dominate sports in our country besides their genes.

Picking a random set of players, Danilo Gallinari went 6th cuz of Italian D'Antoni bias and cuz he's 6-10. Otherwise he mighta went #10-12. Caron Butler who's about the same measurements as Budinger went #10 in his draft. He had a little better showing in college than Budinger, but Budinger wasnt that far behind.

Comparing measurements, talent and production, I'd say Budinger coulda/shoulda got picked in the low 1st round 25-32 range before even seeing his play this year. Rockets even passed on him TWICE in the 2nd round.

 

The comical thing about all these ideas that this stereotype is true is-- all the black examples in the NBA- hardly any of them is not much less than 50% black. It's not like you all are talking about 100% Africans here. African-Americans are generally less than 50% black because of hundreds of years of interbreeding (from the times of slavery).
And, in fact the same holds true for white people to a lesser extent. It's not surprising to look back in any white person's lineage and find a black person somewhere in the past 3 or 4 hundred years.

So now how will you determine who are the good athletes? Gonna use the "one drop" rule of the KKK?

You bring these Native Africans to America, where as slaves they are basically bred like a science experiment to become bigger, stronger, and better slaves. Why do you think most black seven footers are from the US? Why do you think soccer (where speed is a must) is so popular in Africa? You don't see many basketball players coming out of Africa.

Dear God, is the American education system really this bad? Africans have had advanced pastoral societies for thousands of years. It was not until they were pretty much decimated economically and socially by colonialism that they pretty much degenerated into the impoverished, decentralized societies that now exist in many areas. Stop getting your education from television please.

People from all races that grow up in the US are generally much taller than their parents. It has to do with good nutrition. Check Pakistani's for example. The average size for pakistanis in pakistan is probably around 5'7". Among their kids that have been born and raised in the US- probably around 5'9".

Soccer is popular in ALL third-world countries because it requires the least equipment to play of pretty much any sport.

It's genetics and natural selection. There is a reason why Africans are dark skinned in Africa.

*sigh* It is stupid and ignorant of you if you think that is because of race. Average height of population is mostly an indication of good nutrition, especially during early childhood, and general health, not anything to do with genetics or natural selection.

There are plenty of "white" players in the NBA.
