Absolutely. That should go into your judgment when deciding to go to war.

By the way it was stuff like this that got the American people to force the government out of Vietnam.

Hopefully, the US will be out of Iraq real soon, so we can start winning the hearts and minds with support rather than death.

The gunner on the airship is one trigger happy madman. Sadly there is a good chance he will go into law enforcement once he returns to civilian life.

This was a sad event that happened. I just hope we can get out of there soon. I had several buddies of mine that were the first to go to Iraq. Many of them aren't the same people and none of them will talk about what transpired during their time there.

Either way, it's a sad thing that happened. I just hope we don't see any more videos out there like this. War isn't pretty and in the end someone innocent gets hurt.

Believe it or not, several of my buddies are police officers now.

I have a video I wanted to post, but not even I can watch the thing in its entirety. Too sad. :(

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get it?

It's not military that's the problem. It's the old men sending young men off to die while justifying themselves to a gullible and complicit public.

I think that is precisely the problem, the perceptions of the soldiers is that they are fighting a "war" instead of a insurgency. In war both sides are clearly marked and most of the time you know exactly who your enemies are, but in an insurgency all your enemies look exactly like civilians.

And if you go in there with the perception that you are fighting a war you are more likely to to assume everyone is an insurgent and creates unfortunate situations like this one.

Man, that is sad - i'm really surprised they were so quick to fire with all the eyes on that AC130.

The simple answer is to not let your children join the military- PERIOD. Also stop voting for these left-right war mongers. There are candidates out there who are very much anti-war.

The cases and severity of post traumatic stress disorder that this country will witness in the coming decades (due this invasion of Iraq) is going to be staggering.

when i posted the video i was worried people would just dismiss it and go about the day.

i'm glad most people do not agree with these sort of extreme mesures. I don't care how you twist it but this act is uncalled for and should become of the end to this rediculous war.

Sad that this happened. I'm surprised that this isn't bigger news.

I thought they were shooting from Apache gunships.

That's a bizarre statement. You have to be an adult to join our volunteer military. A parent can do nothing to stop them. As for "left-right war mongers," I'm not sure what you mean. Bush began the Iraq War without a reason worth wiping your ass with. The Afghan War that Obama was left with (in a shambles, thanks to Mr. Bush and his needless Iraq War) is a continuation of the effort to destroy those responsible for 9/11 and the people who gave them sanctuary. Agree or disagree with me about those descriptions, but when you are looking for politicians "very much anti-war," good luck finding one who can get elected and who is competent to run the government of the United States.

Yea and what happened with the My Lai gang anyway? Nothing. Everyone that got put on trial got off unscathed. 3 years of house arrest? What a joke.

The sad part is the military probably don't even care about these kids. All the effort to cover up and giving them light sentences are all for the sake of keeping recruitment rate up.

You're surprised the army has its share of trigger happy kids?

Correct. War is the most fundamental evil, and everything should be done to avoid it.
But just because you do everything you can to avoid war and killing, does not mean that when you go to war, you half-ass it. You will kill, and kill, and you will probably kill innocent people. But that's war. And while the video is depressing, it is war.

What law? Does the US government have a law against civilian deaths in wartime, or are you referring to the miserable pile of secrets called the UN?

What really strikes me about your post is how moralistic it is. "Oh, we can't grab hegemony in a bad way, we have to be a beacon of light and never stoop to dirty tricks blah blah." Why not, especially during a war? We've done it to save our country - despite what he did, Sherman is a hero in the eyes of Americans, and deservedly so.

Unbelievable. Somebody should be held accountable and I don't think it should be the soldiers doing the actual shooting.

However, I guess this is what happens when you recruit guys from low income neighborhoods without much education.

Stuff like this just further proves that this war we are fighting has no end in sight. This video right here will probably create more "terrorists" then we have managed to kill in the last few years.

I believe that is actually an AC-130 flying in those big loops.

A soldier in the field thinking on his own no -but with the command structure of a big airplane that's pretty unusual. Listen to how many check offs and approvals they get before firing.
