It's amazing how important these three players have been for this team. It seems that almost every night, one of these guys has 3 or 4 hits. I'm really glad we gave up on the Ensberg / Everett experiments quickly. Regardless of how they might have turned out, I really like how these three guys are contributing.
I have never understood why Merced hasn't gotten more of a shot as a starter. He was amazing even in PH duty last year, and he has really answered the call in his limited playing time this year (unlike a certain RF we know ... I'm not listing any names, but his initials are Richard Hidalgo. True, Merced didn't exactly set the world on fire in his years as a starter with Pittsburgh, but maybe he is a late bloomer. Nobody ever thought, from Luis Gonzalez' tenure with the Astros, that he would develop into the juggernaut he has become with Arizona.
I would say that we have one of the best benches in the leauge . What more can you say about Viz the guy is just clutch , Blum is such an improvement over Truby , and Merced is money too . I'm very happy with these three .
I completely agree. When the season started, I was about ready to bite Jimy's head off for ever giving Geoff starts over Ensberg, who I was absolutely certain would be the better player. I guess that is still possible, but I am certainly no longer upset that Blum got his ABs. He is a big time hitter, and so far is our best clutch hitter on the team. Last time I checked, his batting avg with RISP was .365 (Edit: Currently it is .359). You have to love that. So now that we are back in the playoff hunt, and Geoff is hitting so well, I'm more like, "Morgan who?" Go Stros!!!
Blum has been a terrific surprise. Every time I see him get a clutch hit I just smile. Good to see him doing well after being labeled as second rate.
