is divac and peja going to play?

cuz that tandem tore up the NBA (when Webber was absent).

and if they've got some pretty good NBA-level talent to complement those two, they can definitely give the US a scare.

esp. since we're sending a nepotistic, crappy all-american THIRD TEAM to play them...

just realised that this is seriously in the wrong forum. but maybe this can be tied to:

    1) the francis snub?

    2) the nachbar slovenian connection (even though slovenia hasn't been part of yugoslavia for the past 10 years...)? i wonder... do the more fortunate republics in yugoslavia hold animosities to greater serbia as much as say kosovo or croatia? cuz maybe that'll fire up nachbar in our eventual showdown with the kings in the playoffs?

    :D

Right now the NBA talent on the Yugo team includes

    C) Vlade Divac, Predrag Drobnjak, Zekjo Rebraca
    SF) Peja Stojakovic, Vlad Radmanovic
    PG) Marko Jaric

You're right - that's the best non US team and should play in the gold medal game vs the Americans.

More fortunate republics? Not sure I get what you mean by not including Croatia in there, either. Slovenians really couldn't care less with what the Serbs do in the spiteful sense. Even under the old Yugo flag the Slovenes were always off on their own with little connection to the rest of the country other than being stuck there politically. There was never really blood spilled between them and Serbs.

Croatia on the other hand would probably be quite happy to upstage the Serbs but since the break-up their development system hasn't been the best. Part of the reason that there is so many Serbs in the NBA is because agent Bill Duffy has his European office in Belgrade and the guy running things is a pro-active Serb.

Croats like Toni Kukoc, Dino Radja and Drazen Petrovic were the main stars of the former Yugo teams. Add in Divac and his soft hands and you have a nice roster that did well. Being of Croatian heritage myself I'm disappointed in the showings we've made recently and some of the BS that goes on behind the scenes to lower morale and undermine the program. The Croats have been doing quite well in the junior categories, recently winning the Euro championships, but the older crop just doesn't seem to have the same drive as their Serbian counterparts.

The Slovenian team will include guys like Rasho Nesterovic, Primosz Brezec, Gregor Fuchka (sp) and Boki Nachbar. They'll make a decent run too IMO.

Can you image a unified Yugo team of

    C) Divac, Nesterovic, Drobnjak, Rebraca
    PF) Radja, Fuchka
    SF) Stojakovic, Kukoc, Radmanovic
    SG) Nachbar, Sekularac
    PG) Jaric, Giricek

Most of you probaly don't follow Euro ball one bit - but playing with international rules this team would very likely beat the US.

This probably should be moved to the NBA Dish forum, tho... :)

Canada would have a chance (at 2nd) if Rick Fox would play for them.

this is how they would look:

    c - Todd Mac
    pf - magloire
    sf - rick fox
    pg - steve nash

then they got some decent playes in meeks and swords and a couple others.

okay, here a link to when Canada played Yugoslavia about a week ago. There were no canadian NBA'ers but Peja Stoyakavic was playing for Yugoslavia. Yugo won by 19. Now imagine if canada had those 4 players and yugo had divac. Canada WOULD be able to take them.

    Can anyone tell me:
    a) When are the World Championships?
    b) Will they be televised?
    if B is yes:
    c) What channel will they be on?

And, with all this Yugoslavian talk, does anyone know if the Knicks 2nd round pick, Milos Vujanic, will be a backup PG? Thanks.

How can they win the world champs, if they can't beat a rebuilding Australian team in the 4 nations tournament over the weekend.... damn if only we had qualified for the worlds

Well Gregor plays for Italy now, meaning that he would be unavailable for your combined team!

A lot of us are watching Finals matches on the net now. Don't underestimate how much people watch now. Reading is not enough.

    btw: you are forgetting.

    Dejan Bodiroga

He was their Captain last year.

He is 29yrs old in his prime and for some reason has never played in the NBA. He is widely regarded as the best player in the Euroleague. He'll be their starting SG.

btw: do you think your team would beat the Kings? If not, how could they beat a team with Shaq on it. Remember, Shaq won't play, so we never field our best. It's like a take turns type of thing with a party ball atmosphere.

The US needs to be beat once, to wake these players up. If we care, (which I don't really) we need to take the National Team a little more serious. World BBall tourny's do not insprire the same patriotism as World Cup soccer. If it did, Shaq would play. Kidds would, and Payton. We would have a US system to play, and not try to invent one in 2 weeks.

Right now, it is just a sideshow, like a fantasy game.

i was born in belgrade...juss had to get that out of the way so i can gloat when we win it all :)

the loss to australia wasnt with our first team. theres also blagota sekulic who is pretty good. im not sure if radmanovic is playing.

they have a good team. unfortunatley, peja almost never plays good for the national team.

just remember who the champions of the 98 world championships were. the best us players couldnt play (strike), so it was college and some european basketball players along with rudy being the head coach. team usa lost to russia in the semifinals and yugoslavia beat russia to win it all.

but sasha dordevic isnt playing anymore :(

My grandmother was born near Zagreb. Being part Croatian, I root for the Yugo National team except when they play the home team. :)

I recall that Yugoslavia and Canada are in one bracket while China, Germany and the US are in another bracket at the World Games. Talk about mixed emotions...Croatian heritage, US born, and the only Rocket plays for China.

(Ooopss...forgot about Oscar playing for VZ.).
