Does that mean he didn't throw the INTs? Can you point me to a rule that says INTs don't count unless you play the whole game. Come on man, I realize you are a t-sip...but be accurate with the numbers.
Mack makes 1.7 million per year until 2011. Meanwhile Faulkner(sp?) makes 255,000 per year, 450,000 if perks are included. Something very wrong with this picture. Ah...but the world is imperfect.
So coming into the OU game down 28-0 and throwing a pick = throwing a pick in a big game. But nothing he did against Texas A&M in 2000 was "in a big game"? Actually, come to think of it, it was A&M. So no, I guess that wouldn't be a big game.
No, but the intensity of the quarterback, receivers, and other players obviously goes down when you are down 28-0 and the game is over. Since this discussion is about Simms' performance this year, I find it highly irrelevant how he performed in some huge blowout two years ago. I could care less how he performed under those circumstances, since it's unlikely that his performance then influences a win or a loss.
If he's not giving it all he has when brought into a game regardless of the situation then he's not competitive enough. A QB needs to be a leader.
Exactly. Ut's fate in 2000 had already been determined, they were not in the running for the national championship, thus the game against A&M didn't mean anything in terms of getting a BCS bowl bid. Last years' game at A&M was not a big game either. UT was expected to win that one.
Regardless of what side you are on, if you don't think that UT-A&M is a big game EVERY year then you don't understand football in the state of Texas. Either that or you've never been within 20 miles of either campus the week of the game.
Typical UT fan attitude: it's only a big game if you lose. We were expected to win against CU too... so was it not a big game? CU was exposed in the Fiesta Bowl against Oregon. I don't care what A&M's record was, an inspired Aggie team at Kyle Field is a big, big game. Last year's game at A&M was big for other reasons, too. We had to win it to get in a BCS bowl. (had OU won as expected, we would've been in the Sugar or Rose) Do you not think that a BCS bowl and 12 million dollars means a lot to the team?
Just because UT and A&M are huge rivals, does not mean that the annual game is a big game every year. I will concede that last year's game was a big game because TX was still in the National championship picture. That is the only reason however. I take back my statement where I said last year's game was not big. I am wrong there. But are you going to tell me that, for example, the 2000 game in Austin was a big game, when all that was on the line was bragging rights??? I'd hope not. Sure I want UT to beat A&M every year, but unless UT loses to A&M in which an A&M victory kills UT's national title chances, then a loss to A&M does not bother me that much. As you can see, I am a UT fan that does not care about state bragging rights, I care about seeing my team win a national championship. In short, a big game against A&M is only big if UT is still in the national championship hunt when that game rolls around.
You are right Cat. I was wrong. The UT-A&M game was a big game last year because UT was still in the national championship hunt. So, Mack Brown has won at least one big game in his career. Hey, I'm accountable.
If I posted the following on Hornfans, I would be banned: As long as Chrissy Simms is starting at QB, there's a chance Texas will lose. He gave CU the Big 12 title last year with his 3 turnovers in one quarter. I think he really did have a problem with his nail (I'm not questioning his toughness), and he could have continued, but humiliated and embarassed Mack pulled him cause he was getting booed. If you think alcohol caused the boos and Simms won't get booed again if he sucks ass then I have some ocean front property to sell you in North Dakota. 75% of Texas fans will be screaming for Chance, Matt, or Vince if Simms screws up which if history is an example will happen again. Don't give me the "if Cedric had played" BS. Major brought Texas back against CU without Cedric. Major won the Holiday Bowl without Cedric. If Simms starts the Holiday Bowl, Texas doesn't finish in the top 5 with 11 wins. Fact: Simms has a pathetic TD to INT ratio against ranked opponents...and this guy is being considered a front runner for the Heisman? Man he is the most overrated college QB ever...he's the second coming of Rick Mirer. Mack likes to point to Simms 15-4 record as QB. Only 2 of those wins were against ranked competition. Both in Austin.
I'd like to add that Simms never earned the starting job at Texas. Major lost his starting job due to injury at the end of the 00 season. Mack chose Simms over Applewhite and he paid the ultimate price last year...18 years as head coach, ZERO conference championships. It's tough to digest that the 1999 co Big 12 Player of the Year would lose his job due to injury. I don't believe Mack and Papa Simms had a prearranged deal, but I do believe Chris was promised playing time. It's not his fault he sucks, Mack should have never put him in.
So it's not a big game very often. Fact is that both teams look to this game the very nanosecond that the schedule comes out. Makovic was fired partially based on losses to OU and A&M. Please don't pretend that most of the state views the game as a big deal. I have actually heard many UT fans say that the season is a failure if they lose those 2 games regardless of what happens the rest of the year. You obviously do not understand the importance of rivalries in college football...very sad.
Simms was horrible in the big 12 championship, but Cedric was injured in the second quarter. Regardless, I'm a Simms guy, but he was baaaad that game.
Just a question...but why are you a Simms guy? What has he done to make him better than any of the other QBs on the squad? He wasn't the best QB on the team last year and he won't be this year. Chance Mock should be getting a chance to win the job. But if this keep them from contending for a title then I like it all the better.
