The age factor is really not fair to Kobe. The poll should ask: Who would you pick, LeBron at 25 or Kobe at 25? Even taking away the age factor, I'd still pick LeBron. He is simply a better all around guy.
If they're both 18, I'd go with Kobe. Then I'd recruit James as a member of the dance crew/cheerleader.
Because some people probably didn't read the text that followed the poll, and are assuming when they are both rookies.
You're probably right. In fact, one poster even stated as much. I just don't see how you can't pick Lebron if you boil down the argument to its base level. For simplicity's sake, let's just say Lebron and Kobe are roughly equal right now. With Lebron you get six more years of productions and six more chances to win a ring (assuming they both retire at comparable ages). To even further the argument, it is probably safe to say Lebron hasn't hit the peak of his career, but Kobe is probably past his peak. Not only are you "drafting" Lebron based on how good he his, but also on how good he can still be. But really all it should boil down to is: Do you want X years to win a championship, or X-Y years to win a championship? With all other variables holding relatively constant, you take the extra chances 100% of the time.
I would definitely take a 25 year old Lebron over a 25 year old Kobe. I would also almost certainly take a 25 year old Lebron over a 25 year old Kobe.
If I could go back in time and decide I take Kobe because he's proven. But if I'm trading for a player NOW I take Lebron because he's younger and the franchise can be successful longer
tough! i dont know a few years ago people were saying kobe was next to michael jordan some even said he was "better",... but if they were the same age both coming out of highschool in the same draft year i would have to say lebron just because he made more noise and was expected to be number 1 in the nba draft.
Personally I enjoy watching Kobe more today than I do watching LerBon. Both are elite competitors but I think Kobe has the mental edge over LB right now. I think Kobe still has at least a good 3-4 years until people will start calling him a has been. If I have a young star-in-the-making I would definitely pick Kobe just because I think Kobe would be a better mentor (at least if the youngin is a SG). Just look at what Kobe did for Von Wafer
I can't imagine a worse mentor for a young player than Kobe. If the player isn't everything Kobe wants him to be, he'll just make videos demanding that the front office trade him.
Where do people get the idea that Kobe is clutch from? He made so many clutch shots because he missed so MANY! Also, this is pretty interesting:http://www.82games.com/gamewinningshots.htm Yes he shot well the last two seasons. But career wise, he shouldn't be remembered as a clutch player. Oh, and you would assume that he will get better at it after taking so many.
Welcome to our ool. Notice there is no P in it. Please keep it that way As for the poll, undoubtedly Lebron. A team with Lebron and some kind NBA talent goes to the playoffs by default. If your team needs rebound help, he can crash the boards. If your team needs playmaker help, he can handle the ball. He does everything. Kobe is good at everything else, but doesn't really excel. Proof of that is the Lakers after Shaq left. They didn't recover until Pau arrived.
