Let's face it: this team isn't that good even with a healthy Yao.

Im gonna get straight to the point here. With Yao, we are one of the top contenders in the league. We've got a great team surrounded around yao and with Morey's ability to find and draft great talent, we will only get better. This offseason will be very interesting.

We have assets, picks (knicks picks as well) that any team would love to have. Morey has all the ammo he needs to make this team even better, but if we stand pat and just get yao back, then that is good enough to win.

Next season, we can beat any team in a seven game series. The lakers are the only team that stand in our of winning it all, but we also took em to game 7.

Trade our point guard for a franchise point guard and re-tool the roster to combat the threat of....the Bobcats and Diop, who would only possibly make a difference to our championship hopes if we meet them in the Finals. And this makes sense in your head. Tomjc: when keeping it real goes wrong.

This thread is worse than JCDenton's because the OP is completely serious while JCDenton is, at least, joking a little bit.

I agree with you. Partially with tomjc. It's true that the team does not have the required athleticism and defensive potential to compete against elite teams. You can't compete head to head against Magic, Cavs, Lakers, even Nuggets or Mavs with the current roster + Yao. Look at the 2nd quarter against Lakers the other day: Fisher-Kobe-Artest-Odom-Pau, too much length, strength and height for our team, when they match our intensity those guys are unattainable for us. Scola, Brooks, Martin... you just can't win a championship with these 3 guys as starters, I think it's pretty obvious.

It will be though to trade one-two of them (surely Brooks/Scola), but take it for granted that will happen this summer.

rofl at all these impressionable members who, because of one subpar season WHERE WE DIDNT HAVE YAO AND TRADED CARL LANDRY AND HAD INJURY ISSUES WITH BATTIER, LOWRY, ARIZA, our starters must be absolutely horrible, when virtually the same starters (minus Ron) took the Lakers to 7 games last playoffs.

These are probably the same members who, after Rockets took the Lakers to 7 games, hailed Brooks as the better and faster CP3 and Scola as the Dream without defense.

Like i have been saying.Yao will not be 100% next season so even if we sign camby he will be the backup C.So for us to start Yao,Brooks and Martin together and be any good defensively i could see Hill starting at PF.Also with Landry gone our bench really lacks scoring. So by Hill starting and Big Manu coming of the bench it fixes some of our weaknesses.

Hmm. Let's compare rosters with some teams.

    Rockets 10-11

    pg: Brooks/lowry
    sg: martin/budinger
    sf: Ariza/battier
    pf: scola/hill
    c: Yao/Hayes

and what if we trade for bosh. We might
give up scola and battier. And we might pay luxury
and hopefully sign either mike miller or ginobli with mle
    +picks.

    Brooks/lowry
    Martin/ miller or ginobli
    ariza/budinger
    bosh/hill
    Yao/Hayes

Now compare that to any team...

    Lakers

    fisher/farmar. advantage rockets
    Kobe/brown. Tied or advantage rockets
    artest/Walton/vujiac. Advantage rockets
    gasol/odom. Tied or advantage lakers
    bynum/mbenga tied

    Nuggets

    billups/lawson. =
    aaflalo/smith. <rockets
    Anthony/ who cares <nuggets
    mArtin/. <rockets
    nene/Andersen <nuggets

    Lebr..er cavs

    Williams/Gibson/green. <rockets
    west/Parker. <rox
    lebron/moon. <cavs
    Jamison/hickson/verafag. =
shaq/igluazkas. <rox. Sorry but Yao is better than two old people

only ones I would really have trouble are the magic

You missed a lot points, and you analysis are worthless, sorry to say that, but you have no clue of what your are talking about.

First, I agree with you that this team with a health yao isn't that good, but they can be 50+ wins next season.

you pretty much want to trade every player on this team except Ariza, Martin (even though you want to trade him), and keep the 32 year old Battier. we will not get CP3, nor David lee or Amare, I don't understand any of your thoughts, or where you are trying to get this team.

Why would they want Brooks though? I'd shop CP3 for a good SF or C to play alongside David West.

Well I agree with the subject...but thats about where i stop.

I think most people will agree that AB is a shoot first PG at BEST, and is probably more just a small SG. He isn't an amazing passer or ball handler he is just fast. Then you add in another guy who is going to demand looks and i am not sure how this works.

I am not really sure how much longer Battier's intangibles are going to out-weigh his very mediocre tangibles.

Ariza and Martin have potential but neither of them have really shown anything incredible yet and you have to be concerned about injuries with both of them at this point, especially Martin.

Even IF we say Yao is about to play 25-30 minutes a game from the beginning of the season, he is still going to be slow and rusty for a while. You throw that in with the fact that the rest of our team is currently built on speed and athleticism (AB, Ariza, Martin, Lowry, Hill, Bud) and Scola, the hustle player. Then throw in with that the general assumption that we won't really know what Yao can do consistently until at least halfway through next season and I just don't see us really being terribly more competitive than we are this year. 50 wins? I think Yao might bring us 10 more wins (assuming we keep are main contributors this year) next year so I guess I wouldn't be shocked. But while that MIGHT get us into the playoffs it definitely won't get us very far. I just don't see this current configuration competing for a championship built around Yao.

with this current team + a healthy yao, we're a 50-52 win team; first/second round exit every year. dont kid yourselves thinking that we'd be contenders; pretenders at best.

i dont kno whos kiddin themselves  but theyre not pretenders, theyre a gritty team with massive heart that wont back down and if a team slips they could get bounced out the playoffs once Yao returns

BUT we will be better than 'pretenders' as u put it next year, cuz Morey is gona add an impact player via trade and/or draft u just wait and see

It's easy to blame on everything when you have a losing season. The bottomline is this team will be tough to BEAT when Yao is in the middle of the paint. No damm teams can do anything by pentrating inside and no damm teams can stop Yao from scoring. Most of the time, teams had to rely on outside jump shots to beat us.

Now when you take Yao out, you create a HUGE HOLE in the middle where anybody can penetrate and score easily. And then everything start falling apart afterward. Basically Yao is the foundation of this team. He is like a column that support the house from falling apart. Without Yao in the middle...teams can just attack and chop down that one weak column and the building will just collapse EVERY SINGLE TIME!!

As much as I want to disagree, I can't. This is the reason why adding something of value via draft, trade or FAgency in addition to Yao is vital to the 2010-11 Rox and beyond.
