i am headed to Dallas on Thursday and I am not too familiar with the city. I am trying to find things to do.. restaurants, attractions, etc.... any recommendations?
they have many of the same things we have here. aquarium, zoo, arboretum, museums, theaters, bars, and restaurants. one thing they do have that we don't is hockey, i'm not sure if the stars are in town or not, but hockey games live are worth the price of admission. are you just going to go, or is there a specific reason?
yeah, a Stars game would be awesome if they're in town. The Sixth Floor Museum is really good, somber, but good (where Oswalt shot Kennedy). The Dallas WORLD Aquarium is very nice & worth the money...note the Dallas WORLD Aquarium (the Dallas Aquarium sucks). The Dallas Zoo does not compare at all to the Ft. Worth Zoo (one of the best in the country). Ft. Worth is a better place to hang out. You can park at Sundance Square at night for free and walk from bar/restaurant to bar/restaurant. There are a couple of great pubs in Ft. Worth I like - Ye Olde Bush and Bull has a very foreigner type atmosphere. Lots of Scots, English, Irish & Aussies hang there - great, great jukebox if you like old punk/alt/ as well as classic rock & a great, great tap selection. Around the corner from there is The Gingerman..much better than the one in Dallas, less frat types..friendlier atmosphere. People bring there dogs in to both of those pubs. Overall FW is friendlier & more Houston-like
Food: Lawry's The Prime Rib and Blue Goose Mexican Restaurant are my two favorite North Texas restaurants. Attractions: JFK 6th Floor Museum, Cowboys Stadium tour, Galleria, Ft. Worth Stock Yards.
Catch a performance at the Winspear opera house or the Wyly. Two fantastic venues. *Drive down Elmstreet and see if you can spot a nude Erykah Badu.*
There's a really cool sports bar in uptown off McKinney and Hall called Frankie's. Also there's a bunch of bars like Social House and Uptown pub just a few blocks up McKinney past the Walgreens, in a brick shopping center on the left. As far as places to eat Manny's Tex Mex is pretty good, and there's a Chuy's not too far as well. Breadwinner's is a good brunch spot. I went to a dumpling spot called Lumi's of McKinney that was good as well. If you're in the North Mockingbird area Cafe Brazil is a good choice as is Fadi's. I don't think anyone goes out in Lower Greenville anymore.
be prepared to be surrounded by a bunch of idiot Mavs fans who are jealous of San Antonio and Houston
Ditto across the board, also if you want take of a tour of the Death Star that Jerry Jones created in Arlington then go to Six Flags if you have kids. Addison is near the Galleria and has quite a few bars and resturants to check out.
