i guess Nancy wasn't joking when she said the bill would need to be passed for people to find out what was in it.
Don't get me wrong, basso, I'm not supporting your claim. I'm asking for evidence behind this current claim other than some person saying it is so. Or, preferably, counter evidence to dispute the claim.
HHS says they'll issue "clarifications" to make sure there's no "misunderstanding", but it's clear this has been in the bill since it passed the senate in December, and somehow no one caught it, likely because they haven't read it.
Here you go... Sounds like a deliberate misreading to me, but I can sort of see how the language could be parsed. Good for the administration to slam this door shut quickly.
Indeed Congress Gives College Aid A Boost WASHINGTON -- More needy college students will have access to bigger Pell Grants, and future borrowers of government loans will have an easier time repaying them, under a vast overhaul of higher education aid that Congress passed Thursday and sent to President Barack Obama. The legislation, an Obama domestic priority overshadowed by his health care victory, represents the most sweeping rewrite of college assistance programs in four decades. It strips banks of their role as middlemen in federal student loans and puts the government in charge. The House passed the measure 220-207 as part of an expedited bill that also fixed provisions in the new health care law. Earlier Thursday, the Senate passed the bill 56-43.
By the way, it sounds like a slew of insurance industry lawyers and assorted other scum are poring over the new law to try and interpret it to their advantage. This will not be the last of these little "glitches" that makes the news. I'm willing to bet they'll all be intentional misreadings of the language in order not to comply with the intent of the law. (note: I didn't affiliate all lawyers with scum, just insurance industry lawyers. Of course, as a Liberal, I love the Trial Lawyers.)
Misleading article. The Amendment in question requires only Members of Congress and their Congressional Staff to go onto the exchange. Only these select few do not have the option of keeping the insurance plan offered by their employer. All other federal employees are treated just like any other American is -- they are not exempted and are only required to go onto the exchange if their employer (in this case the federal government) doesn't cover them. Their insurance plan (The Federal Employees Health Benefits Program) is not exempt from the regulations that are being enforced on every other insurance company. They are subject to the same standard as any employed American.
Thanks for posting a link and not pretending it was your own ideas... like you did in the Recess thread.
