Well, uh, considering that they beat Germany in the Euro finals and whupped England 2-0 the next year, I'm going to say that there wasn't a lot of bricksh-t among the Spanish strikers.

And come on, Joleon Lescott? yeah scary...if I were Manchester City and had just handed him a big contract.

Haha the Euro cup argument, how cute. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Germany have more Euro cups than Spain? That doesn't matter, The World Cup is where the big boys rumble fella and well uh, Germany has 3 of those big shiny trophies. Spain hasn't even finished top 3, ever.

Spain will FOLD. I guarantee it.

Yep, they play the defensive method but I mean when you have a defense like that and arguably the best goalie in the decade wouldn't you play like that? Win at all cost. I actually enjoy watching Italy's pay, maybe I'm just bias, who knows.

One more thing, if Lippi doesn't call up Del Piero to at least the bench, I will personally buy a ticket South Africa and strangle him

They will fold what exactly? Their shirts and towels? I know it's great that Beckenbauer won a world cup in 1974 or whatever before anybody playing now was born pretty much, but I don't know how much relevance that has today.

I do know that the Spanish team has pretty much made all European competition their b**** since 2006, the last time they lost a match to European opponent.

    From the man himself:

"To be a legend, one needs to win a World Cup," said Messi in comments to El Mundo, slighting the many titles he has already won as a player and with his club. "I am 22 years old. Everything is happening very quickly and I have to be calm."

A little early to compare. Skill sets are very similar but he has to perform in World Cup, eat two cows, and then get on a serious cocaine habit to be compared to Maradona.

For example, Ruud Gullit was a brilliant player. He was the mastermind behind the lethal AC Milan offense but he never had any sort of success in any of the World cups. If he had, he would be in the same conversation with some of the other greats.

IMO, both he and Tevez were underplayed last world cup. If the coach had played them more, they would have been the winners.

My personal preference is Zidane, who single leggidly has terrorized Brazil in two seperate World Cups. :)

Same here, the best player I've ever seen play was Zidane. There will never be another player with his style of play imo.

Really? You don't think these guys were as good? I don't know if you see them play, but I tell you they were in the same class of Zidane. Maradona is in the another world by himself alone. Don't get me wrong I love Zizu, when he at Juve.

You are talking out of your a $ $, Spain has all its players in their prime this time around, plus they have been the best team consistently in the last 3 years (They lost to the USA 2-0 in 2009, the FIRST LOSS since 2006!!). BTW when is the last time England won the WC? (1966  ) Also Germany might play like a machine but unlike previous WC's they don't have the talent they've had. Ballack is 34 years old he's not going to put fear in anyone, also who the fudge is Lescott? Kidding, but why would you mention a mediocre player like him? This is a ManCity fan saying this.....

Well I won't get into being as good or better etc etc, but for me I enjoyed watching Zidane play more than any other player I have ever seen. That's all I'm saying really :)

Man I remember he was the shiznit back then. I remember watching him destroy Beckham in the WC. Not that Beckham was anything too special. As for Christina Ronaldo, dude's like Dirk. Whines too much.

On the topic, I would pick Messi over Madonna. It's wayyyy to early, I know, but I don't really like Madonna. The guy was one of the best, no doubt, and that whole drugs thing doesn't have an effect on thing. I disliked him when he claimed the "hand of God" bullpoop. Even Henry admitted the handball.

Messi is amazing. Already has a hat trick in the 41st minute of CL game against Arsenal.

He still need a world cup title to be at least in the same sentence with the GOD himself.

Just saw this, sorry for the late reply.

I'm just speaking by history actually. I know Spain has a very lethal offense and arguably a top 3 defender in Puyol for the last decade but it's a fact that they FOLD in the world cup.

Talent is not what I meant when I mentioned Germany, it's raw power. I'm not a fan of Germany (Italy is my team), but what I have learned about the Germans is that they fight every single possession til' the death (I'm exaggerating, you know what I mean). They're machines just like the English. Finesse CAN beat power (refer to Brazil vs. Germany 2002 world cup final) but Spain is no Brazil. In fact, they're not even close.

The fact they haven't finished better than 4th ever, backs up my argument. Get some hardware and I'll eat crow.

There was a time when I hated Argentina and thought Baggio was better then Maradona. I was clearly being bias but it's not THAT much of a reach. :p

Messi is 22 years old. He's got at least 3 more shots at a World Cup.

Messi is a good player but gets made a lot of times by his teammates.

Anyways, Ronaldo (Brazil) is king, imo.
