Should the rockets stand by and just let the Kings correct their only weakness by signing Clark. If some of the stories are true then we should pick him up. I know we have 3 pf's and 3 c's already but the thought of preventing the Kings from adding a pf who is as good as any of ours except EG, is very attractive. Those long arms and hops are rare! I am really sorry about the weed thing.
We can't worry about the Kings right now. We're 2,3 maybe 4 years away from competing for the championship so making a move soley to stop the Kings is not neccessary. Maybe if we were in the Lakers, Mavs or Spurs position but as of now we have enough C's and more than enough PF's.
I think that's absolutely right. We need to worry about ourselves and how to make ourselves competitive before we worry about what other teams are doing.
So do you figure that Rod Thorn last year said that he is 3-4 years away from a championship? Next thing you know they are in the finals. What you do is you put together the best team you have and see what happens. I do not buy this crap that we are years away. I am on record and so is Chad Ford and many posters that this team is all set. CD have done a great job rebuilding the team and in many aspects the team is ahead of schedule. How smart would we be if we meet the Kings in the 2 round and have to contend with Clark looking for a big contract, when we could have avoided all of that. Such a move seem infinitely easier and less disruptive than any regarding Lewis.
Eastern Conference...Western Conference. Two completely different things. Hell, next season the Hawks or the Bucks could win the eastern conference, and they didn't even make the playoffs last year. I think the Rockets could even have a shot at winning the eastern conference next season, with or without Keon Clark. In the west, it's going to take some time before the "big four" are dethroned.
Dont they have Webber, Vlade and Polly wants a cracker..........and Keon. Whoppie! Dont we have Cato, Yao, Griffin, Thomas and Taylor...and no Keon. Besides, we already have one pot smoker on our Rox.
DC, do you think it is going to be easier to dethrone them if Clark joins them for pennies? Clark is not Samaki Walker! If the big four includes Dallas and Spurs, why is it going to take a long time before the rockets are in that group? Have you seen the games between the texas teams? In addition, Dallas and Spurs have some holes. Nellie was right when he said he does not have a SF. The same for the spurs. I am not willing to call these teams as being beyond the rockets. I would willingly accept the top two, Kings and Lakers, and go from there. This is not the first time that I am predicting 1st round homecourt status for the rockets. Put another way, both the spurs and mavs would have had as bad a record as we did if they had suffered the same number of injuries that we had. Let us look at it this way. Is the rockets better with Clark instead of KT or MoT? I would say yes. Do not forget that if Amare was at #15, the rockets would have picked him. While Clark may not be as good in the long run, it shows that the team could have added another PF if the opportunity presented itself.
Kings adding someone who will play 5-10 mpg in the regular season(and next to nill in the playoffs) will not make them significantly better. In fact, I'd rather sactown get him than Dallas or SA(not that either really want him anyway). Think there might be a reason no team wants to pay him even close to the 4.5mil exception, despite the fact that he's tall and talented? Hell, even the Knicks aren't interested. pass.
call me an idiot, but frankly i think at this stage of our team's development, signing Willis to be a mentor and complement to Yao is far more valuable than signing Clark who would be in direct competition with our future franchise center and also Cato. Willis has a number of veteran tricks (like establishing position, a decent jump hook, a down-right mean scowl, bear hugging opponents, the ability to average 20-12 in a center-oriented offense...) which i think would be invaluable for Yao to pick up... It seems like Clark is just a slighter more athletic version of Cato.
Clark will barely improve the Kings, if at all. He has terrible ball skills. Which makes one wonder when precisely he'll be on teh floor, since the Kings entire strategy is to ensure anyone on the court at any given time can shoot and handle the ball (like the Mavs). He doesn't have a real post game, either. So what can Keon do? He's explosive. He rebounds. He dunks. He blocks a few shots. That's all nice - really, it is- but it's not about to alter teh balance of power much at all. Could it tip Sacramento past LA? Sure it could. There was barely a difference between the teams last year. But it's not something that you need to fear, at all. It doesn't improve them much. It's just that they don't need to improve much.
That is exactly my point. We could probably make some moves in the Leastern Conf. but we're in the West. We can't compete w/ the Laks or the Kings right now so we don't need to make any moves to stop them. What we need to do is let this team develop and grow for a year or two and then prepare to make our run for the throne.
