So explain so that all of us can understand... was it just one or two guys that made the inappropriate remarks or was it the whole gathering.... and was it an isolated incident or was it truly a choral chant? If they really worked on it, they could probably make a round out of it-- like "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." I condemned the isolated ugliness. Please don't pretend that I didn't. Virtually every history you read of the TeaParty movement describes it as a grassroots, non-partisan effort that is conservative in nature. It's not their fault that more Republicans are conservative than are Democrats. But keep up with the name-calling and slurring. It's quite effective I'm sure!
This link goes a long way towards supporting my assertions not yours. If these TeaParty events were organized top-down by the Republican Party, why on earth would they do this: "The movement is not tied to the Republican Party, group spokesmen said, despite a report that at least 10 House Republicans will be speaking at events across the country. Eric Odom, founder of dontGO, has infamously turned down a request from Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele to speak at the group's Chicago event. Spokesmen for all three groups said they are not aware of any contact (other than the Steele incident) between their groups and federal-level Republican politicians, at the national level at least; Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), however, will speak at an Americans for Prosperity-organized event in Wisconsin, a spokesman for that group said. His appearance was organized by the group's Wisconsin chapter, Policy Director Phil Kerpen told me." Since the vast majority of politically active adults are registered either Democrat or Republican, anyone involved in anything is going to be one or the other. Big deal. The RNC Chairman cannot even insert himself on their agenda...
basso some events were organized by Dick Armey's(R) group. I never said they were organized by the Republican party. I said there was a connection there. It is a connection that does not exist with the Democrats. Look who they had speak at their convention. They were Republicans. You can pretend that all of the events and Republicans attending as part of the tea party official itinerary is just coincidence all you want.
This is getting scary -- Extra Security For Members Of Congress After Activist, Tea Party Threats House Democrats are expressing concerns about their personal safety following protests over health care legislation. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Wednesday that officials from the FBI and Capitol Police briefed Democrats on how to handle perceived security threats. Hoyer said at least 10 lawmakers who feel that they are at risk of harm are getting attention from the proper authorities. Hoyer said some posters depict a lawmaker's face in the crosshairs of a target. Protests swirled around the Capitol during debate on the health care bill last weekend. Protesters hurled racial slurs at several black lawmakers and one protester spat at one black lawmaker.
I don't remember who it was that I heard say after 50 or so isolated incidents it's a pattern. This is totally unrelated to your post, but I was just thinking about it since it is kind of related to the more general topic... I will say that I don't believe in entirely blaming folks like Palin, Bachman, and Boehner, and other idiots from the Republican party who are friends of the tea partiers. They may share in some reprehensible behavior but they have the right to say the lies they've told under free speech.
more -- The New New Thing Seems like we've got a new craze: faxing pictures of nooses and gallows to congressmen's offices. Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), the House Majority Whip, got one today. And Rep. Stupak (D-MI) got one too. http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/
Are you asking why the grassroots organization that has a lot of racists in it and publicly has racist banners and signs at their events would reject the black GOP guy and let all the white guys in the GOP speak?
The advancement of the Tea Party was due to opposition to what the Democrats were promoting (Bailouts, Cash For Clunkers, Healthcare Takeover)-- no surprise there! But, gosh, major has proved that all Tea Partiers are just out-and-out racists so what is there to discuss?!
Look, I'm not defending anyone who shouts defamatory slurs at anyone, even if they agree politically with me. If these charges are true, I hope that they suffer whatever punishment is due. However, it seems like the more liberal posters here believe that nobody on their side of the aisle is guilty of any wrongdoing ever. For instance, here's a "facist" and "Kill the police!": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ed60LFxOW_8 Here's a couple more for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaVahxDhWfM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlqPP2FboUA&feature=related Now, I'm sure they're going to be written off as "propaganda" or dismissed out of hand, but the fact is that there are crazies on both sides of the political spectrum, and to turn a blind eye on your own is wrong.
Oh crap, sorry I'm late to the thread guys. I've been policing the rest of the internet forums I go to ever since the healthcare bill passed. This was my last stop. [police] Guys who yelled the stuff, knock it off you racist pigdogs! [/police] phew.
Some anarchists do have a thin strain of individualism with regards to market economy and private property, but most anarchists are in favor of anarcho-syndicalism (all power to the workers) and anarcho-communism (common ownership of the means of production) based on Marxist economics. Granted I'm not terribly well versed about economic theory with regards to politics, but that sounds more like extreme left-wing thought to me. "Libertarians" comes in all shapes, sizes, and political leanings. Plus, that second video is a radical gay rights group, and aren't evol Rethuglicans trying to suppress them at every turn? Yet they're not left leaning? Like I was trying to get across, there are wackos of every political school. To ignore the boorish and even illegal behavior of any of them is wrong.
Are you not getting my point, or are you just being argumentative? Here, I'll say it AGAIN: and Sorry to quote myself, but just wanted to make sure I'd said it earlier. BTW, go back and see how many cheered on groups like Code Pink and MoveOn.org. Quite a few actually. George Soros (a HUGE Democratic contributor) practically single handedly funded MoveOn at it's beginning.
There was no health care takeover. Nobody has claimed that all tea baggers are racists. But there are plenty of racists among them. They had a man give a racist speech to open their convention. They don't seem to be too concerned or doing much to rid their ranks of the racists that show up at all of their rallies. Trust me, if people acted like that at any political group I was affiliated with, either they would be gone or I would. I've left groups because of idiots before. Now the tea party belief that there was a health care take over was in part because of Republican lies, so again the connection is made.
