The first Captain America super soldier was black. I think. Retroactively written that way... I think he could do it. You guys wanted Dawson's Creek to play Cap. Clowns.

    Captain America finally cast!

Closing out the story he broke last Friday, THR's Boris Kit is reporting that Chris Evans has accepted the role of Captain America. Says Kit, "The dealmaking moved so fast it's now all about dotting the i's and crossing the t's."

As I said last week, I think they've 100% got the right man for the job (please see Danny Boyle's SUNSHINE if you doubt his acting ability). Now it's up to Marvel and director Joe Johnston to knock this sucker out of the park.

Principal photography is expected to begin soon on THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA. The film is currently scheduled to be released on July 22nd, 2011. That gives them plenty of time to find the perfect Bucky.

I enjoyed his Human Torch from the Fantastic Four movies. (and it was freaking hard to find a pic of this guy with his shirt on). He's got the perfect look for Cap.

Wait - he can't play Captain America! He's already Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four!

That'd be like having Tobey Maguire play Spider-Man AND Batman!

    Foul!

I think what you meant was like Ryan Reynolds playing both Deadpool and The Green Lantern. Two different superhero worlds.

This doesn't make a lick of sense because The Human Torch and Captain America both belong to Marvel.

Well, the other reported contenders were Channing Tatum, Ryan Phillipe, and some guy from the Gossip Girl. Given that I can accept this choice. I still think Captain Awesome from Chuck would have made a good choice.

That incarnation of the Fantastic 4 is over. I'm sure Fox wants to reboot it because they don't want to lose the film rights, but due to F4 being at Fox, they can't show up in the movies like Iron Man, Hulk, Capt America, and Avengers without an unprecedented level of competing studio cooperation.

Captain America was a badass not some pretty boy.

There's only one true Captain America in my book.

As much as I like John Krasinksi in The Office, I could never picture him as Captain America. I see him more as the Peter Parker type.

Steve Rogers IS a pretty boy. He's the all-American archetype. As badass as he is, Randy Couture looks like random guy in prison.

    Besides, pretty similar body types:

    I can live with it.

I wish Marvel could somehow wrestle back the franchise rights from FOX.

It's a damn shame that they sold off their best properties in the X-Men and Spider-Man, but it's the only thing that kept them afloat several years back. Just glad they kept the Hulk and Avengers (Iron Man, etc). They've been the best Marvel movies of recent years.

No guys you cant have a complete badass as Captain America. Steve Rodgers was a lanky, sickly artist before you volunteered for the super solider program. You cant have too beefy or tough. That being said I have no clue who the best pick would be.

Actually if he wasn't already the hulk (and an Australian actor) Eric Bana would be okay.

I like evans...he was good as the human torch also. I'm a little disappointed they didn't come up with someone different for the aforementioned reason. none the less, I'm interested and I think it'll be good. to be honest I was somewhat intrigued with the idea of a black captain america, but whatever.

also I'm with everyone else above, please get the rights to xmen / spiderman / f4 back so we can have some non-suck-tacular versions of them.

side note: I can...not...wait for the deadpool movie. ryan reynolds is the f'ing man.

Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith from The Matrix) confirmed as the Red Skull. Awesome. link

Hugo Weaving Confirmed as the Red Skull in Marvel Studios’ CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER Marvel Studios announced today that Hugo Weaving has been cast to star as Johann Schmidt aka the Red Skull in the studio’s highly anticipated movie CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER opposite Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell. In the early comics, Johann Schmidt was drafted into loyal service of The Third Reich and renamed “The Red Skull”. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation. Joe Johnston will direct the film penned by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Louis D’Esposito will executive produce. The film will be released in the US on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. Weaving was last seen in THE WOLFMAN and his voice is very recognizable as Megatron from TRANSFORMERS and TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN as well as Noah the Elder from HAPPY FEET. His other film credits include starring in V FOR VENDETTA, THE MATRIX franchise, and THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. In addition to CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including the highly anticipated sequel, IRON MAN 2, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow on May 7, 2010, THOR on May 6, 2011, and Marvel Studios’ THE AVENGERS on May 4, 2012.
