I have to disagree with the first part, Houston and San Antonio have the I-10 rivalry .

We've actually got a more complicated (and at times) nastier history with the Lakers than we do with the Mavs. Remember, the Kermit Washington punch, the 1981 Playoffs (Moses throttles Kareem, head to head), Kupachak and Olajuwon showdown (Olajuwon gets ejected with referee shoving him to the Lakers' bench), Hakeem vs. Shaq, Barkley vs. Shaq, Yao vs. Shaq, Battier-Artest vs. Kobe, the Fisher (cheap) elbow to Scola's face, Artest goes to Lakers as he feel he was wronged by the Rockets, and etc.

    spurs

I'm from Houston but have lived in san antonio for over 14 years now. These are some of the most biased fans in the world. They are spur fans not sports fans. They cannot debate sports, especially when it comes to the spurs. For years I have had to hear how david robinson was one of the best centers ever, he won two titles and all that garbage. I love shutting them up by simply saying "olajuwon on mvp trophy night". They say bowen was not a dirty player, manu doesn't flop.... They say their team should have been team of the decade and they are a dynasty... please. Like i tell them, in the years san antonio didn't win the title they didn't even get past the 2nd round. that is not a dynasty. they were excited thsi summer after signing jefferson and mcdyess, were claiming to challenge the lakers, now you dont hear a peep out of them. so fairweather. I route for any team playing against them. I am so glab to see them on the verge of falling out of the playoff race. Nothing would please me more than to watch my rockets with no super stars, beat them out for the 8th playoff spot this year.

I say the Spurs. I have disliked Duncan, Pop, Bowen, and Finley for awhile. Finally Bowen is gone and Finley is too. They are looking up but I will still hate their boring gray jerseys until Duncan is gone.

    Jazz, Mavericks.

Also hate the Spurs, hate that look Duncan has on his face all the time, like he doesn't like playing basketball, he just plays because he's tall.

I wish we had seen a Olajuwon vs Jordan finals. With the Rockets winning of course.

Jazz, no contest. Obvious second is Dallas which is something when you consider they've only been rival worthy the past four or five years.

Makes me wonder though who they consider to be THEIR most hated team? I would think possibly us.

Also, I used to absolutely HATE George Karl in 96 cause I SWEAR the Sonics were dirty players. Of course I was only, like, 16 so.

If the Supersonics were still active, they'd easily be 2nd or 3rd.

The Supersonics were actually our arch-nemesis , as equally as Utah was.

The obvious pick is Jazz, but I find our relationship with Dallas and SA just a friednly rivalry because we're in the same division.

When I get enough money, I'm going to buy a SAM launcher, and park it right beside the Jazz airport.

Utah, Dallas, and Los Angeles. I hate these teams with such a fiery passion that it is really hard to choose which one is the worst. Probably Utah because their play style, their attitude, and their players just piss me off. The flopping, the dirty plays, the fact that it seems that they get calls that completely change the game to favor them... I just can't stand them.

I think our rivalries with San Antonio and Portland are more friendly. Can't stand Boston either. Always breaking our streaks.

I understand the I-10 rivalry, but that doesn't really translate on the court very much as far as the players go. That also has a lot to do with the lack of really important games (i.e. playoff games) between the two teams in recent years. But for a good rivalry, I think it is essential for the teams to have some heated playoff games/series.

As far as the Lakers go, I agree that the history is there. But the problem with that rivalry is that there are long droughts between the two teams meetings in the playoffs and that brings the rivalry down because during those droughts, a lot of key players aren't there, the fans don't know about it as much, etc. The average years between the two teams meeting is 5 years. That is a long time in sports. That's why I think if the current core players meet in the playoffs one or twice more, then that on-court passion and dislike in the playoffs will translate to the season series, etc. However, if they don't meet again for another 5 years, then I wouldn't really consider it a big rivalry with the events from last year's playoff series because the teams won't care about the Ariza/Artest switch and shoe deal, the Fisher cheap shot, etc.
