Uhh LeBron is not only dependent on his athleticism. He has tremendous size and strength, which he often uses to score. Also, his court vision is exceptional..... if you simply do not like LeBron, that is fine, but to say that he only relies on athleticism is not accurate.

    Well I would take Kobe.

But we all saw what LeBron did in the playoffs against a pretty good defensive team in the Detroit Pistons when he scored I think the last 25 points of the game for the Cavs.

    LeBron? Overrated?

This is why that word needs to go. It gets thrown around far too much. It's pathetic. When in doubt, use "overrated". It's a lazy thinker's term.

    Give me a break.

statistics are a product of offense. Lebron is clearly an amazing passer, but to solely say he is a better passer because of his numbers is not a legitimate claim. Kobe is a capable passer, as was Jordan. No player has averaged over 7 assists in a Triangle offense even though Jordan has averaged over 8 before that. Its an equal opportunity offense, so the numbers won't be the same in terms of all around game. Lebron plays in an offense run simply through him(rightfully so) and he leads the NBA in possessions per game by a wide margin. There are too many factors that produce statistics to just simple use them at face value.

And as far as team mates, there is no doubt that Kobe's cast is more individually talented than lebron's. However, once again, Baskebtall is a cohesive sport, putting 5 individually talented players on the court can not guarantee a win especially if their games overlap, and they do not compliment each others weaknesses and strengths. Lebron's bread and butter is his drive, hes faster and stronger and if he gets in there, the refs will atleast give him a foul. This allows his assists so you surround him with shooters(that's why someone like illgaskus who is certainly not great but keep the opposing center away from lebron) and you have a team that fits him like a glove. I don't care who has the stats and numbers, baskebtall is won by 5 players and on the defensive end, same goes for the 01 sixers, lebron and AI were both leaders of their less individually talented team, but those teams and defensive coaches fit and surround and compliment their games to bring the best out of each other. Put lebron in the triangle his assists would go down, he would have to rely on his mid range more which spacing is a factor in the triangle, and thus his statistics would take a hit as well not to mention to guys you could pound it too without having to set them up in Pau and Bynum.

He has no doubt finally improved his jump shot this year, yet he still has work to do. There is no doubt he is one of hte best players in the league, that he is specially talented and skilled, but overrated isn't based on that, its based on a kid getting called king who hasn't won anything yet even, who plays in a league with no hand checking and has the nba accommodating him rather letting him earn it in the beginning. I.e: Getting called king before he stepped on this court, having 90 million behind him before he stepped on teh court and the biggest marketing machine ever. Rookie of the year was a fluke, lebron averaged 20-5-5 and worse fg percentage, highest turnovers in the league, so basically a very inefficient force fed stat, Carmelo averaged 21-6-3 and had his team in the playoffs as the best player and leaders yet lebron voted outright? I think players see all these things and don't say hes overrated bc he sucks, but he's overrated bc he gets treated as the GOAT and a champion and although hes one of the best, he's not their yet. Who do you think MJ is talking about in this article about NBA giving hand me outs, force feeding marketing plans so on:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3243645

I am not a fan of lebron's antics with dancing on the sidelines when they are up, not shaking hands and just his overall spoiled antics, I still see holes in his games although he has improved but media doesn't dare point it out for him (http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/11838893/13096104/7)

but I do respect him as one of the best players in the game, and with his freak athleticism that we've never seen anyone have the convenience of having, he could be truly special with championships, but when he earns it and becomes that, then it materializes, but still overrated isn't saying hes not great, its just saying the he gets rated as a god almost when espn writes for him, but its no doubt his talent is special

Lebron cheats because he relies on athleticism so it invalidates everything he does.

This is sports, people, not an athleticism contest.

Yea, Lebron is hardly overrated. At least at this point in his career. Just look at those numbers and his teams win numbers year after year. We'll see what happens when his athleticism fades and all those minutes on that massive frame hold up as he ages.

McGrady has probably been overrated probably his entire career. He might have deserved his massive max contract for 1 or 2 years, when a Kobe/Jordan and top 5 player comparison was viable, but after his two year scoring titles and maybe his first year in a Rocket uniform, he has been a gigantic let down.

Wait, woah, how is that cheating? Are you saying Jordan or Kobe's athleticism played no role in their careers?

lebron is up there with kobe. just my .02 cents.

lebron could end up being the perfect basketball player, lord knows he's close right now. his game will change as his body becomes less athletic.

I dont think Kidd is overrated, he still plays good, and had a great career.
I think Tony Parker is overrated.

I prefer Kidd in his prime, than Parker in his prime.

What if Kobe played for the cabs that year they got swept by the spurs? I think you can compare that cabs team in the east with the lakers team that took the suns to seven games.

Put lebron on that lakers team and they get swept. Put Kobe on that cabs team and they win at least 2 games.

This statement irks me. Do you even watch basketball?

Jason Kidd started off his career in Dallas. He was teamed up with Jim Jackson and Jamal Mashburn. In his rookie season he turned a team who had 13 wins the entire last season into a 36 win team. He won co-rookie of the year with Grant Hill.

Then he was traded to the Suns who made the playoffs all 5 years he was there, due in large part to him.

In 2002, Jason Kidd turned a 26–56 team into one who won 52 games. In the Eastern Conference Finals, he averaged a triple double against Paul Pierce and the Celtics. So lost twice in the finals.... Those were ridiculously stacked Lakers and Spurs teams that he lost to.

I don't think people realize just how great a point guard Jason Kidd is. He completely controls the tempo. His court vision is beyond belief. He can make passes that even good NBA point guards only dream of. His court awareness is off the charts. Simply put, he knows how to run a team and he knows how to do it very well.

The guy has the 2nd most assists in NBA history. The 3rd most triple-doubles. The 2nd most playoff triple-doubles. Oh and he was only voted number 28 on Slam Magazine's list of the 50 greatest players ever. He's definitely a winner.

I know how good Kidd was but I don't understand why that makes him an all star this season. Brooks is better.

Brooks had 70 thousand more votes and they both play pg. The fans have spoken. Kidd is overrated this season if he is an all star before Brooks. Forget his past. Ok it's in Dallas so Howard should get in over Kobe.

i definitely agree with you. id still rank jason kidd in the top ten if not top five, especially given his improved 3pt shot. given a chance, i would pick jason kidd over brooks and lowry anytime of the day. sure brooks is quick and can score in bunches, but that's not what you really want in a PG.

you also forgot to mention how he can turn any player into an all star (kenyon martin/richard jefferson anyone?).

as for lebron being overrated? how is a human being at that height and that build be that athletic and be overrated? i hate his antics and the media hype, but you cant deny he's the best player in the entire world right now. even kobe.
