There probably are people who have done the same and gotten no hype. The reason you can't think of any is...because they have gotten no hype.
from a Memphis fan "I mean where did Brooks come from? Is he like the best player in the NBA along with Lebron and Kobe? Why do people just go off on us? This is crazy"
I loved AB since last year in the Playoffs. He just doesn't get credit because of his height and lack of defense.
If the rockets were in the playoffs, and if the basketball attention wasn't so focused on the college tourney tben he'd be noticed or if he played for a bigger market or if this was a new thing. Brooks was good in the Laker series if you recall, so its not that surprising to see him play well. Lots of players get snubbed from national attention, Andrew Bogut for example posts consistent double figures, but because he's in a small market and plays for a team that wasn't good, no one noticed. Now the bucks are rolling, and he's garnering some attention
Why? Cause he's a sg in a pg's body or a shoot first pg at the very least. If he averaged like 10ppg+, 8apg+, he'll get recognized.
You can still be an all-star caliber player even if you didnt make the team, like Deron Williams finally made the team this year, but he was still an All-Star before then. Thats basically my point, Brooks falls short on that criteria. But yes if he was in the East hed have a stronger shot at a fraud selection ala Derrick Rose
Holy s**t. Didn't know you can make queries like that on basketballreference. I can't believe that site could get any more amazing than it already is. Man, Dana Barros. That must've been his career year that he turned into a huge ass contract. On topic, scoring point guards these days just ain't what they used to be. Brooks may be awesome, but it's not like he really stands out.
Eh. Derrick Rose was OK to be an All-star in the east, he is having a decent year, but seriously, Al Horford made the team....
I was wrong about Brooks being below lg average though, for some reason I thought league average was 108PPP. Still all-stars are usually well above that mark. Rose was OK, I would have taken Iggy or G-Force over him somehow, Im sure there were ways to get them in. Horford wasnt too bad, Lee or Bogut wouldve been better in retrospect but Bogut was playing below his standards then and both were perceived as losers. The real loser in all this was Josh Smith
