That's who I use as a bi-weekly housekeeper. She's a native of Austin, perfectly legal, since she was born in Austin, and is even of Scotch/Irish/English extraction, like me. She made her living as a singer in Austin clubs, at least until she became too old to put up with the inconsistent money, staying up half the night, drinking too much, and the rest of the lifestyle. More to the point, she realized she wasn't going to "make it." In her case, the years she could have been in college learning a profession were taken up with a music career. Housekeeping was a day job that turned into full time. Very well read and very intelligent, if exasperating, she's done pretty well despite her kind of work. She owns a bungalow in Hyde Park in central Austin that's paid for and worth more than my own house in an upscale neighborhood in Southwest Austin, a neighborhood that I can't stand. Go figure! It takes all kinds to make a world. I'm one of them and so is she. We consider ourselves lucky to have had her the last 5 years. We were on a waiting list for two years before she had an opening.
very disappointed a comment about the maids outfit has not been made yet and accompanied with a picture of it... possibly NSFW Spoiler Get your head out of the gutters pervs
We have a maid come to clean once a week, but we don't use a service. They're usually more expensive. When my wife got promoted, we agreed that we had to hire a maid service, because there is just no time to clean for us these days. The first maid we hired was $50 a week, but her performance got pretty spotty and we let her go. Our new maid is $70 a week, but is one of the best maids we've ever had. I consider that totally worth the money.
I pay $60 per week to have a 2600 square foot house (Size matters!!) cleaned. I have been using the same lady for the past 20 years.
We have a 3600 sq foot house and pay $80 a week. Its a woman and her mom and we've been using them for about 2 years now and they do an awesome job. We live on the north side of town so if anyone is interested, email me through the board and I'll hook you up with their info.
I've been through 3 people and I like the one I have now. $75 for 2200 sq ft home in central Houston, 2 full bathrooms and her and her sis-in-law come every two weeks. They do all the floors, kitchen, bathrooms, furniture, etc and finish in 3 hours or so. I specifically ask them not to do linens/laundry and they only do the few dishes in the sink which is usually just the coffee pot. Let me know if you want her contact info.
I actually asked her the other day because of this thread if she was looking to take on more work. She said that she is not, however, since you specifically asked, I'll ask her again.
My wife got a quote from a maid service here in DFW a few weeks ago... $211 for the first visit, then... $95/wk or $106 every other week or $148 every third week or $158 once a month We decided against hiring them...

you don't hire your mother to clean your house. It doesn't sound right. My mom would kick my a$$ if I ask her that
I used to have a maid, but then she took the Fourth of July off. I promptly fired her and told her that if I wanted someone who took the Fourth of July off, I would have hired a citizen.
we got ours via word of mouth. they would lose a lot of business and it would be know who did it. FWIW, we pay $80 every other week for a 2200 sq/ft house in s. austin. I was against having a maid until my wife got pregnant and we had our daughter. I was doing everything and it got old. Having the Maid is well worth it.
