Next Wednesday I am going to have a Microdiscectomy. I have been battling back pain for 2 years that radiates into my right leg and foot. This is after failed epirdural steroids and a similar (yet less involved) procedure called a percutaneous discectomy. Anyone had this type of procedure on the board?
Dang they are going to take a disk out of your back. Hope the surgery goes well for you dude. Best of luck.
Good luck. I had a laminectomy of my L5-S1, with the disc removed and titanium screws filled with bone marrow from one of my hips used to fuse it together. How I wish I hadn't done it. While it got rid of the very painful sciatica down one of my legs, I have chronic pain in the area where I had the surgery all the time, but it's "only" extremely bad from time to time. Your operation is much less invasive, I think. Again, good luck.
Cool story, Bro. Sin, Dei. PS- Hope all goes well. Back surgery would scare the hell outa me. Clutchfans prayers, and if you don't like the pain medicine, well...you can like, email me through the board and stuff.
My gf had this exact surgery last year. She stayed with me for about 2 months afterwards so I could take care of her. PM me through the board if you have any specific questions.
Yea, I can get through days of work, but I have to take a crap ton of pain medicine, so I am really not worried, just kind of glad at the prospect of the sciatica going away. Thanks for all the good words. I will be bed ridden for a few days but have already set up an area with lap top, big screen, xbox, medicinal mar1juana, small fridge and pillows of different feather origins. I think after the initial soreness gives way, I will be content with a few days off.
Ive had the same sciatica pain in my leg since I was 16, im 21 now. Ive been thinking of getting the same surgery but its a long recovery. The first 4 years it was only leg pain but for the past year I have also had some bad back pain. I cant even play basketball because the pain has gotten so bad.
Good luck man, I know how scary this is. I used to have sciatica starting when I was 19, but at around 26 the pain changed to just plain back pain and I've been dealing with that for the last 4 years. My problem now is that my L3-4 and L4-5 discs are just about completely degenerated. I have been avoiding the surgery for years, and I finally found a doctor that is able to relieve my pain at least for a few months at a time by performing discograms. I know eventually I'll have to get surgery, but I'm trying to hold off. I actually go for some more injections on Monday.
I had microdiscectomy a few years ago. I walked out the same day. Of course I was walking very slowly and couldn't lift anything over about 5 pounds for a couple of weeks. I'm glad I had the surgery. I was losing the use of my left leg because the disc was ruptured up against my sciatic nerve. I didn't get 100% the strength and feeling back in my leg, but had I not gotten it done, I think I would've been dragging it behind me today. I have no regrets. Microdiscectomy is a pretty common surgery from what I understand - you'll be ok, but good luck anyway!
Think long and hard before you a similar surgery. You are very young and doing so will put you at a very high risk for cervical disk disease which is not fun.
If you have an open mind look into this bro, this therapy put me back together after I endured chronic pains for years from sports injuries. Good luck! http://www.prolotherapy.com/
