damn, I played GOW1 when it came out (and loved it) but never got around to playing part 2, whose HD revamped version is sitting at my house right now, still unplayed. I need to make beating part II top priority this week so I can get started on III quick!! Though it'll be hard with March Madness starting in 48 hours
What's funny? You don't see any games averaging 95+ these days. Which is good, it's tiresome to see reviewers give out near 10's to their personal favorites then duck points at leisure from other games they didn't like as much for reasons they conveniently ignored in their favorites.
I'm not knocking the game or the scores. Anything in the 9's is a great score and should be a great game. I just expected to see even higher ratings for the game on those sites just based off of the built-up hype and how people (who played the game previously) talked about it. Hell, you see the impressions of those who already have it, like the posted amazon review earlier in the thread, and I would have assumed to see near 10's for it. 'Disappointing' was the wrong word I used previously. I was "shocked", based off everything I mentioned, not to see even better scores even though it's getting great scores as is. I thought it was funny because the low 9's just seemed too low based off what I was reading around the web.
Uncharted 2 Mass Effect 2 I think mogrod was expecting scores like these two games. I sort of was as well. It is only a 3 point difference though, but in the way games are scored, those 3 points are really hard to get once you're already in the 9's. Regardless, it's not going to effect my enjoyment of this game. It looks amazing!
Last time I checked Uncharted was 95 and ME2 was 94. It's been a while though. Anyway I do find it a bit ironic that the reviewers' biggest grip with GOW3 is that it plays just like GOW1&2.....which applies to Uncharted2 and ME2 too. It's like the whole "Yao is soft" stigma, you just can't seem to shake it off once the media decides to latch onto it.
Looking to pick up GoW3 at Gamestop tomorrow while trading some games that are just picking up dust. The reviews everywhere have been stellar for GoW3!
Yeah, the only knock people are saying is that the combat is basically the same as the first two. Pretty stupid when thats all they can point to. Even then, there are some things that have been added to the combat that help even more. Such a fluid experience. Why would they revamp it? Plus as pointed out, the games that scored higher had the same controls as their predecessors. My review would have 10/10. Games don't get better than this.
I picked up this game at midnight at wally world. I ran into a buddy that got me the 1st one at the store. This game is full of badass gameplay!!!
Holy $#!^ at the opening! It seems like every big game now days is trying to set the bar from the instant the game starts. But wow, the bar just got raised so high, I don't see anything passing up this intro for a while. In fact I'd go as far as saying best freakin opening to ANY GAME EVER! Just jaw dropping what the PS3 is doing these days.

Not playing this till I finish FF13....38 hours and still on ch11 After GoW3....it's Yakuza 3....Haven't had this many games I wanted to play at one time since I was a kid.
I pre-ordered it from them a couple of weeks ago, but no, I didn't get release date shipping. I go with free shipping most of the time, especially since I don't normally care when I get the game. Guess if I was with Amazon Prime, release-day shipping could be free. Would be nice to have it now, but I got a few other games I can play.
I'm about 10 hours into GOW1 on normal, and I just finished the pandora's box level. How much further (ie, how many more hours) do I have to go? And for those who beat GOW2, how many hours does it take? Damnit...picked up GOW3 and played to the first save point. This game looks so badass. I have to beat the other GOW games to enjoy this.
