Getting oil changed in new car: to Dealer or to local mechanic?

I agree 100%, oil changes are usually $25 with a coupon you can print online. Having someone else do it for $5 is worth it!

It's a long driver to Minnesota. Between the Ford dealership for my car and the Toyota dealership for my wife's car, at most we pay $22.95 for an oil change and usually $19.95.

I prefer to change it myself on a Saturday. I just like to use my tools (go ahead).

I guess it's just a preference thing. I grew up helping my Dad fix the family car.

 

I'd imagine I don't save money anymore on oil changes, but I still change it myself anyways....simply because it's nice to be able to do some things for yourself every now and then.

And the only real hassle is having to dispose of the oil and filters, which I still need to do.

 

Its a brand new car, if he changes the oil himself he voids the warranty..... He needs a recepit from an actual shop or he needs to take it to a dealer so that his warranty is not affected.....
