I personaly can't see them making the playoffs and i'm not sure that will be their goal,37-45 sounds about right record wise.A followup question could be,How is Reggie Miller feeling about now after he signed on with what was the defending Eastern Conference Champs and now the team being a shell of it's former self.If I was him I'd be urging Management to move me to Utah,I could live in Mormonville for a couple of years if it meant winning a championship.

Then don't you mean he should be asking for a trade to the Rox. [IMG]

I'm sticking with Charlotte. I can't flip because I don't want to be confused with Peter Vecsey.

WE ALL KNOW THAT THE PACERS WERE ROBBED BY DAVID STERN AND HIS CRONIES AT NBC. IF IT WEREN'T FOR THEM THEY'D BE GOING FOR BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK TITLES THIS YEAR.

HELL, WE ALL KNOW THE ONLY REASON THE PACERS HAVE EVER LOST A GAME IS BECAUSE OF THE REFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know why you'd say the Pacers will be so bad. I think they've taken a step back so they can take 2 steps forward down the line, but they certainly won't be out of the playoff race. Who are you expecting to take the E.C. 8th seed? I think they'll place around 4th.

I think it is unfortunate for Reggie what they're doing with the team. They're trying to rebuild and contend at the same time and they'll end up falling between two stools: they won't be able to get to the Finals, and they won't rebuild as quickly as they would if they'd trade Reggie. However, they will keep their Arena full for a long time to come.

I agree with Coffee Man - Indiana's not going to be THAT bad, and making the playoffs or even winning a series isn't that tough to do in the Eastern Conference.

But I don't like the way the Pacers have gone about things. This is a team that made the Finals last season. Reggie only has another great year or two left in him. Harrington, ONeal, and Bender might all be really good some day. But right now the Davis Boys are much better, and by the time their rebuilding process is over, the best player they've ever had will have retired.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush...

I hope they just barely make the playoffs -- 'cause Golden State has the right to take their 1st round pick next summer if it's not in the lottery. [IMG]

Lose: Jackson, D. Davis, Mullin, and Smits.

Gain: Jermaine O'Neall, Primoz Brezec, and Jaquay Wells, Rex Walters, Gerald Brown.

IMHO, it's the Hornets, Pacers, and Raptors fighting for playoff spots 3 thru 5.

Perhaps they could get a lift from Bruno Sundov?

    The Hornets??

How the Hornets going to do that? Mashburn is definitely no Eddie Jones and they already had a good frontcourt anyway. Is ee the Hornets making the 6th seed at the highest, hoping they can come out ahead of Milwaukee. As far as the Pacers, I still dont think theyve slid that much. I think maybe 4th seed. If you look at theyre lineup they still have Reggie and Jalen Rose. THeir frontcourt has grown weak, but i always though it was overrated anyway. And NOBODY knows what the young kids will do. PLus, in the East, Croshere is as good a 3 or 4 as most people. The only reason the Pacers would slide very far, in my opinion, maybe because of Isiah. A winner on the court, this guy cant seem to put things together when not playing (look at broadcasting and the CBA). Here is a preliminary guess of what the East will look like.

1)Miami- I ll be shocked if they dont win the East
2)Indiana- only here because they win the Central/record puts them as 3rd seed. This was a really hard decision though I see no other real competition in the central division
    3)Orlando
    4)Toronto
    5)Philadelphia-stay
6)NYC-too many 2 and 3's, need a good PG and a better center for their system.
7)Milwaukee-dont think theyve improved that much. TIm Thomas is basically Glenn Robinson and Joel Pryzbilla is basically Jason Collier.
    8)Charlotte

Also, this years Orlando in the East will be...The Nets. Finally, Marbury, Van Horn, and now Martin, forget about the past and put it together to start moving in the right direction.

I sort of like the Hornets as a sleeper team this year. In losing Eddie Jones and Anthony Mason, they lost some big time talent, but I think they've gained some identity. I see DC as their go-to guy. He'll also be starting at center for the first time if I have it right, but his offensive versatility should absolutely EAT UP the weak centers of the East. He could put up his best numbers in years. On top of that, he'll have the luxury of defensive stud PJ Brown handling the tougher defensive assignments in the frontcourt and Mashburn relieving some pressure on offense from the outside. Campbell and Davis, etc. add some decent depth. I think the Hornets are really quite dangerous....

As far as the Pacers go, I think it would be wise for them to go after Joe Smith. They need a veteran in the frontcourt. The size of that team is incredible! If they play more mature than their age, they'll make some noise. In the future, they're going to be downright SCARY!!!! [IMG]

I actually think the Pacers are in awesome shape for the future. They have an energetic core of good, young players. Plus, they have a couple of solid veterans to help them out.

As well, they have a potential franchise player in Jon Bender, who will only get better. The Pacers have a very, very bright future.

I think they are better shape than the Rockets, both currently and for the future.

As far as losing Rick Smits,I dont see that much of a drop off if O`Neal/Perkins plays center,IMHO I though Smits slowed the Pacers down and wasnt that good the last 2 years. With Rose at the point I think you will see an team that wants to run a bit more and I think Croshere is going to have a breakout year.

How is Toronto better than last year. Mark Jackson is a good PG, but I would rather have T-Mac

Because T-Mac wasn't that freakin good, and I really don't think he ever will be all that great.

He is possibly one of the most over-hyped players ever.

    Food for thought.

Pacers were 56-26 finishing ahead of Miami, NY, Charlotte and Philly.

Arguably, on paper the other teams are better or equal to their last years team (Philly will at least have Kucoc for the whole season). Last year, the Pacers split the season series with EVERY ONE of those 4 teams. They also split with the 8th seeded Bucks.

The Pacers were 20-21 on the road.

The pacers were cheated in 98, 99 and 2000 by the NBA powers for their title, So F the NBA and anyone who thinks otherwise. This time around they were cheated by their own GM of a title shot. Donnie Walsh is one stupid man.
At least Donnie Walsh did assure that one player from the Pacers will win a title this year and that is Dale Davis. The Pacers are the best team the last 3 years but that is over with it's time to move on. It was a great run just like the Rockets had from 93 to 97. All great things have to come to end unfortunately.

With Jalen Rose and Reggie Miller still on board, the Pacer's will field a team that can make the play-offs. And with good role playing vets in Travis Best, Austin Croshere, Sam Perkins and Derrick McKey, they will be competitive. And Jermaine O'neal can make the most out his opportunity, and Bender and Harrington develop, I can see the team retain its home-court advantag. The only reason is because no team in the East really improved this year, asides for Miami and Orlando. Indy likely won't past the second round, if that far. They do have a bright future, but but how have they brightened their future this season? To my knowledge, they just gained J.O'neal. Of course, they young'ins from last season now have the opportunity to shine now.
