    Does he need to?

I mean, the guy whom he ridiculed (MambaJoe) basically argued something along the lines of why the sky is orange and not blue. The best response to that kind of idiocy is to just laugh it off.

Seems like you're struggling with the English language. The guy didn't just make up those words. How do you not know what "flaming" (on an internet forum is)? And he wasn't "thinking about your panties." It was a reference to the idiom "getting your panties up in a bunch." Go look it up.

Back on topic: to settle the dispute here, the OP (mambajoe)'s main point, actually, WAS in fact the simple argument that Yao "is only good because he's big and tall." Go read it again. If you think otherwise you obviously failed the verbal part of your SATs. Sorry to break it to ya.

    Flaming is lame.

"Getting your panties in a bunch" is a stupid expression for guys who like thinking about other guys' a$$ cracks.

MambaJoe said a lot of good things about Scola, in a thread about Scola. Give him a break.

You can't fail the SAT. As a matter of fact, I am literally an English professor. Oh, I get it, you were using an expression from that internet thingy. Well then: devastating response by you!

Second sentence of MambaJoe: "The reason why Yao can score at a higher level is because Yao is so much taller and bigger. So defenders have a tough time trying to guard Yao because he is so tall." You don't think Yao's height and size help him score?

MambaJoe did say a lot of good things about Scola, in a thread about Scola. I don't think anyone has a problem with that. The problem people have with his comments is that he tried to make Scola look better by making Yao worse.

Yao's height and size does help him score but MambaJoe stated that "Scola is more talented than Yao" and implied if Yao wasn't so tall, he wouldn't score at a higher level. Well, last time I checked, being 7'6 is a talent and not a skill. You can't teach height.

The MambaJoe continued to degrade Yao by comparing their achievements in international competitions. That is an unfair comparison because the Argentinian team has an array of talented players while China has ... Yi Jianlian.

Look, we're lucky to have Scola and he is a great player. However, there's no need to compare a power-forward to a center. There are many things Scola is better at than Yao but there are also many things that Yao is better at than Scola.

Did not read the whole thread. I have a hard time to believe that a Scola fan is not a Yao fan, or a Yao fan is not a Scola fan. These two share so many characters. Actually the "Yao, Catch Me If You Can" joke is the exact kind of jokes with dry humors that Yao does all the time.

All right. I also think Yao is quite talented. I just don't see the need to flame semi-coherent posts. Maybe I don't follow the board close enough to know who hates who and who's a YOF or whatever and I really don't care. But "Are you ten years old?" is no kind of meaningful response, just a waste of board space and milliseconds of my lifetime for my eyes to pass over it.

Yao is better than Scola. Yao has talent.

I'm pretty sure Battier is a ghost judge on American Idol, too. It takes talent to spot talent. The guys on TV are just the front men/women.

    This thread is not stupid.

Whoever started this 'who is more talented' debate is stupid.

Ok... that's great. Any other pearls of wisdom that no one cares about?
That's fine. I love Scola too. But, what's the point in trashing Yao in a post where the purpose is to praise Scola?
You're LITERALLY an English professor? Then, you should LITERALLY go look up how to use a colon.

Go watch Yao's 41 vs the Hawks. Double/Triple teams is what he faced.

Now go watch Scola's 44 point video Clutch posted. Completely different.

    Yes, his size.
If Yao had Scola size he wouldn't even be in the NBA.

Scola has the most variety of post moves of maybe any NBA PF. He has 0 athletism, and no strenght. His game is based entirely on fundamentals he has learned.
