Who cares if he is or isn't? He and Martin are the best scoring options on the team, he NEEDS to look for his shot and should be taking plenty of em.

That's Yao's problem if everyone else has no problem catching a bounce pass.

You do realize that not everyone else is 7'6 right? A bounce pass that goes to other people's chest will go to his waist and considering AB's bounce passes usually end up at everyone's waist, his bounce passes usually end up at Yao's knees.

Ab is a just a lazy passer! these one handed bounce passes that he always attempts are terrible! If he would use 2 hands I think he would be better off.

If you know anything about Basketball you know that you give Big man the ball HIGH.

That limits the ball from being stripped away from them in the post by pesky doublers.

Yao doesn't need to do anything differently to adjust to AB's inability to get him the ball.

    It's on AB.

The thing in throwing the shoot-first label around, is I never once saw anyone mention "PASS-FIRST". Who are the pass-first or pass-ONLY guards? Brevin Knight?

he's a scoring point guard, not a shoot first pg. I believe he's got the skills/iq to be able to pass and score somewhat like a CP or nash, but i think as he's gone to higher levels of play he's gone away from passing because of his size. Not that he was ever a "passer", but i think it's clear his size gives him problems trying to get passes off in traffic, so as the comp got bigger he had to learn to get shots off more and in more different ways instead of passing.

The guy clearly has very good aim on his passes, his lobs are perfect and his bounce passes on the move are damn near perfect, just like the one he threw to scola lat night. Perfect timing, perfect spin, etc.

Those bounce passes usually come in at the waist normally higher which is in good receiving motion. You can't really throw a chest high pass because yao lets his man reach around and knock the ball away. Those bounce passes come in just fine if you know anything about basketball.

Seconded. Not many times at all. Were you here for the Steve Francis era? Now that was dribble-mania.

meh posted a fantastic article in the NBA Dish called Not all assists are created equal.

You should read it, and I'm sure Brooks ranks at the bottom of these PG's.

Looking around the league, I've begun wondering if we'd be better off with even a Nate Robinson (same but better) or a TJ Ford (way better passer) as our PG. I genuinely believe Nate can put up 20ppg on 43% shooting with the same assist/to ratio if not better. I believe TJ Ford would fit this team perfectly, providing far better passing, the same FG% but no 3pters whatsoever.

The article also allows me to understand why a guy like Stephon Marbury was always able to rack up assists but still appear selfish.

It's a must read and I wish I could rep meh for posting it. Enjoy. meh's excerpt from the article:

Hi Yetti. I did not remember "dribble-mania" was your term. Sorry I did not give credit to the source! :)

I agree. Brooks can shoot .. IDK why people make such a big deal about him shooting ...Cuz u know if he didnt take shots people would complain also "Brooks isnt aggresive enough, blah blah" AB runs the court trying to spread the offense, and a lot times the guys just stand around instead of moving with him, so at times he is forced to take shots he shouldn't cuz the players are not open... "He is not greedy with the ball"

Ok so who did you want taking lots of shots in this years inept offense? Ariza? Perhaps Battier? Lowry? How about any one of 3 ROOKIES (Andersen, Budinger, Taylor)?? Fact is we have had NO inside presence all season. Scola is beating up on crappy teams right now and I love the guy but neither he or LANDRY (who is apparently a GOD by how some of yall talk about him) were not consistent enough with post offense to avoid forcing us to be a jump shooting team. We are a jump shooting team this year. When we don't shoot really well, we lose 100% of the time, and who else but brooks has consistent range and shooting touch (excluding kmart who came in late)?

I think aaron brooks has the skills to atleast average 6-8 assists a game. Thats plenty for a guy who has his scoring ability. Give him a year starting w/ yao, martin, scola, ariza (plenty of offense) before you obliterate him.
