Playing for the warriors doesn't require much ability as a playmaker in the first place. Its a completely offensive oriented system, a couple of days in practice going over the plays and most players could thrive in that system.
He's not better than Brooks. He's a better shooter, that gets a lot of shots, on a terrible team. Neither one are really point guards - which is why comparing Curry to Deron Williams and Chris Paul is silly. Brooks shades it as an athlete, due to his ludicrous speed - so he's probably got a little more potential than Curry - though Curry will probably have a longer career due to his exceptional shooting.
shooter-yes passer- maybe. the system is rather inflated with super high pace. player- no. not yet anyways. he's certainly not faster and better at breaking down the d right now. his repertoire consists solely of jumpers and even though he shoots extremely well jumpers alone won't always be consistent. his driving/finishing abilities are actually pretty pathetic, but i suppose that's why they let monta do that instead.
I agree Curry is a better shooter but as I said it is barely. Aaron is a reallly really good shooter.
Aaron Brooks is my favourite player in this team but he's not as good as Curry even now. Curry is a pass-first point guard, he didnt get too many assists this year beacuse in Don Nelson's system, Monta Ellis dominates the ball. Look at Curry's stats when Ellis out. He can do everything good besides defense. When he bulks up he will be a normal defender for his position with superb ball handling, pure shooting, high bb iq. This guy is very underrated this year beacuse of he's playing for GSW, Tyreke Evans ( who is playing in a team that where is the 1st option, actually ONLY option) and Brandon Jennings's 50 point night. He will be very good, believe me. If you dont believe me watch GSW games and youll see.
He will be better than Brooks, that's why he was a lottery pick But right now? No way. Brooks puts up better numbers on a better team. The Warriors are terrible and Nellie's offense always inflates offensive states.
People who say that Curry isn't a playmaker haven't seen him play this year. Because of his career at Davidson, people automatically assume that all he can do is score. But if you bother to watch him, you'll see someone with veteran savvy, who knows how to run the pick and roll perfectly, who has tight handles, and who has great court vision to go along with a great shot. He's already as good as Brooks is right now and he's only going to get better. All-star player for sure.
I stand by my statement on him not being a natural playmaker like a Paul or Williams. Yes I have seen him play, and yes he is very good. But come on now. Face some reality.
I'll chime right in with ParaSolid. You clearly haven't seen Curry at all or very little. To say "his repertoire consists solely of jumpers" is ludicrous. Curry is very creative at playmaking for others. He already sees the floor much better than AB ever will. He also is very nifty at finishing around the rim. For there to even be discussion about a rookie vs. a 3rd year player pretty much makes it obvious Curry's upside is far beyond AB's. And the talk about "system" is also misguided. You have to watch Curry play to see what he can do. His basketball IQ already matches or exceeds AB's. He also has much better instincts as a PG. The only thing AB has on Curry right now is speed, quickness and experience. AB still hasn't figured out his limitations and he commits very dumb TOs at inopportune times. By Curry's 3rd year, there won't be any discussion about who's better because the case will be closed. The only thing that could prevent this is injuries. I love AB because he's a Rocket and he does awesome things on the court sometimes. But let's be realistic about his ability. When comparing him to another player, let's make sure we've seen a few games of the other player before saying stuff that's way off track.
Curry is better. I'm still waiting on Aaron to do this... <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YGNnHDksvJ8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YGNnHDksvJ8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
This is a Rockets board and Curry is rookie playing for the warriors, so inevitably people are going to favor Brooks. With that being said, Curry, with exceptions of defense and speed, is a superior player to Brooks. Curry is a slightly better out side shooter with better basketball moves and playmaking ability. Curry is the type of player who has very few limitations in his game, outside of size and defense. Brooks is definitely no slouch, but you also have to remember you are comparing a top 6 draft pick who was expected to have an immediate impact on a team vs. a player who was drafted in the latter part of the first round who at first wasn't expected to do much (especially by a segment of this board). I'm pointing to coming out of college Curry is much further ahead than Brooks was coming out of college . . . with this also being Curry's first season.
I will break it down for ClutchFans: Aaron Brooks is not a dork. Stephen Curry is a dork. This topic attempt to compare some dork... to my boy AB. MY BOY AARON BROOKS FTW.
shoot wide open threes and throw the ball across half court for the fast break? Are you seriously going to tell me that passing to one of MULTIPLE slashers Nellie inundates the court requires great playmaking? Great playmaking isn't shown untill you watch a player in the halfcourt set and direct the entire offense like CP3 and dwill. The single greatest playmaker is steve nash however. He is godly in a fast paced system but he is so good he can adapt to any sort.
Uh, are you serious? Curry is not a bad defender at all, in fact, hes one of the only warriors players that DOES play defense. And i think 6'3 is pretty damn big for a PG?
"Great" or not by your definition, I challenge you to watch Curry play 5 games and not conclude he sees the floor way better, passes much better and isn't already a smarter NBA player than AB. It is very obvious. This season, it's debatable which player is better than the other. It won't be for long.
I don't agree. First of, despite today's stats and his stats on the season, he's not a pass first point guard but rather a 6'3 lead guard with decent quickness. However, I will agree that he is a very cerebral player for his age and I won't hold anything against him.
He has a small frame (frail-like) and his defense as I was saying is not bad, but it could be better.
