The Spurs had a superstar.........Tim Duncan

In his prime, Duncan was a superstar.....the man was the total package.

Best power forward to suit up imho....

Unfortunately, it is simpler than that. A team is not winning a championship with Aaron Brooks as starting PG. You know it, and anyone with some basketball knowledge knows it. It's hard but needs to be addressed. Hopefully Morey will take action this summer.

It's easy to make stupid claims like "a team with XXX player starting won't win a championship." Maybe you can enlighten us all by factually proving that Brooks is a reason this team can't win a championship.

I guess I must not have any 'basketball knowledge' (a sadly underwhelming catch phrase).

It's weird how people only think of the Pistons when it comes to championship caliber teams without a superstar.

The Kings would've gotten a championship if the refs weren't in the Lakers pockets. The Blazers would've gotten a championship team if they weren't gigantic chokers with their great leader Scottie Quitten. The fact that they failed didn't mean they weren't championship caliber teams.

I can't remember the 2003 Pistons being anything like a Rockets team lead by Yao Ming. :p

Not enlighten you, it's easy to see. Championship teams tend to have at least decent PGs. Brooks, scoring aside, is a very bad PG, simple.

A starting lineup of the following still concerns me on the Defensive end

Yao/Scola/Ariza/Martin/Brooks... Especially Scola on the blocks against PF's like Dirk/Gasol/Aldridge etc....

    Bench:
    Salomon Alabi/Hill/Battier/Budinger/Lowry

I would trade Scola/draft pick/Lowry for Bosh though. It would hurt trading Lowry though, put I like what Temple brings.

Well, scoring aside, Allen Iverson is a pretty bad player. Scoring aside, Reggie Miller was a stiff. Scoring aside, Ray Allen is fairly worthless. Scoring aside, what does Rashard Lewis bring to the table?

Obviously, championship teams can't possibly handle players who can score but don't do much else. I mean, Tony Parker was never much of a passer or could play defense. And we all know how badly Spurs keep failing in the playoffs.

    Nope, not even close.

Ben Wallace was a premier defender back then. Same with Rasheed Wallace. One of the better 4/5 defensive combos to win a championship.

Then you got Hamilton and Prince. Prince was a really good defender while Hamilton was really great off screens. Perfect fit.

Billups, the key man. Played great defense, ran the offense beautifully and made some big shots.

    Good bench as well.

Not only was Billups key to that 03-04 Pistons team, he wasn't nearly the known commodity then that he is now.

During the Pistons championship season, Billups averaged 16.9 pts and 5.7 assists. That postseason, if I remember correctly, he sold himself in interviews as "Mr. Big Shot." In other words, in addition to their on court play (Billups was the Finals MVP) players are partially responsible for selling themselves as championship material.

I am not comparing his playing style, skill, or leadership ability to Aaron Brooks. Brooks has not yet demonstrated to me that he can command a team the way Billups does (Brooks is playing in Adelman's offense--another factor to consider). But note that Billups was 27 or 28 years old win the Pistons won in 2004. It took him awhile to find his swagger. And his access to national media coverage gave him an opportunity to sell this swagger.

I get frustrated with Aaron Brooks late in the fourth quarter, but in my opinion, the jury is still out on exactly what type of player he will be. I'm not sure how anchel can confidently state that Brooks, as a starting point guard, is not championship material. I doubt that anyone thought Billups was championship material when he played for the Timberwolves.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't read past Tim Duncan not being a "superstar."
