Pretty disgusting that 1 single person controls that high of a percentage of Mexico's GDP.

i remember reading recently that mexico has more billionaires per capita than any other country in the world. and its also got poverty that would absolutely shock the average american. on a whole, its not 3rd world, but there are plenty of areas, urban and rural, that are.

its historically had a very corrupt government - wealth is concentrated in the hands of very few people and the vast majority are left out to dry.

 

This doesn't seem like something I would be terribly proud of.

 

Same here.. It only magnifies the uneven distribution of wealth in that country.

The guy doesn't seem that generous either. It says he recently committed 65 million to charity but I think he can do better than that. A LOT BETTER.

 

What exactly are you proud of? That he's Mexican?? It seems like corruption and cronyism are LARGE contributing factors to his wealth. Also, what would you call Mexico if not a "developing nation"? I understand that on paper, Mexico is right up there with the rest of the G20 nations, but one visit there tells the true story about the poverty and wealth distribution that hampers it. I look at Mexico much in the same way I look at India.....both countries have vast amounts of resources to offer the world, but internally, both are so riddled with corruption and government impotence that progress is slow and painful.

I'm not sure that's something to be proud of in this context...

 

i thought 3rd world meant exactly that. a vast disparity between the wealthy and poor. i could be wrong though. wouldn't be the first time.
