Seems to me everyday there's a new knee-jerk thread about how Aaron Brooks is a ballhog/ballstopper/bad pg, or how Ariza can't shoot to save his life/makes horrible decisions/is a bum.

A couple of years ago it was JVG's stubbornness to play rookies, his over- reliance on Tmac and Yao, his lack of offensive schemes and prowess.

And just recently, it was Tmac. The heartless, lazy-eyed, mentally soft, second-round virgin.

Every season someone must take the blame and shoulder the responsibility for a loss. Sometimes it's fair and sometimes not.

Which Rockets player/coach claims the title of greatest scapegoat? You guys decide.

Every player that ever suits up in a Rockets jersey seems to become a scape goat one time or another on this board.

Of all time has to be Rafer "NO tear drop please! :( " Alston

Tracy McGrady was absolutely crucified here... but to be fair. Most of the hate directed towards him was legit. Especially after the whole knee surgery incident.

I'd say TMAC but that's to easy so I'll go with Rafer and Ariza in the Yao era. Saying that, Brooks is QUICKLY moving up the charts for lots.

Kenny Smith was the Rafer Alston of the early 90s. That dude used to catch so much heat from fans and media....and then we won those championships, and now he's a legend. Just goes to show how much winning really fixes things.

luther is my favorite scapegoat of all time.

usually the scapegoat is someone who carries some sort of responsibility (pippin and tmac), starting pg's (rafer and brooks), or large investments (cato, and ariza to some extent).

however, luther was none of those. he was on a small rookie contract. he was a meaningless role player who only played due to injury. this is a real rags to riches story. an end of the bench player turned scapegoat?

How can you not have Rafer? He was the only Rockets scapegoat I really agreed with. Dude was arguably the worst starting PG in the league for a couple of the seasons we had him. It was an absolute joke to have him playing major minutes with Yao and McGrady (along with Chuck and Battier) and wonder why that team couldn't quite get over the hump (especially with injuries). When only 40% of your starting lineup can play offense, you're gonna have some troubles.

... But I digress. Rafer sucked. He's the most deserving scapegoat of all time. Is that what you mean by "greatest"?
