Rookie season: 122 three point attempts Second season: 92 three point attempts Last season: 16 three point attempts Eddie Griffin last year: 267 three point attempts! 267? Man, that's getting up there in the Dennis Scott zone. Now, you have to wonder how much of that is due to Griffin, and how much is due to those pick and fades that always ended up with him at the top of the key. Personally, I blame Bill Worell. If he hadn't gone on and on last year about that stupid Robert Horry 100 threes/100 blocks thing, Griffin probably wouldn't have jacked up so many. Heck, I'm not asking a Kenny-like performance from Griffin...just get the three point attempts down to...50? Yeah, 50 sounds good... Here's an even better idea. For every missed three point attempt not in the final seconds of the shot clock, make Griffin eat one order of the Compaq Center nachos. That will straighten him out real quick like... One final note that doesn't warrent it's own post...The one Rockets player last year that played in all 82 games? Yeah, you know who...
I don't think KT's success was directly related to three point attempts. He realized that it was more to his strengths to slash to the hoop. I think his success is directly related to the fact that he worked his ass off during the off season and was in the best shape of his life.
More PT and higher percentage shots helped KT. But I think you could have plugged in a lot of backup PFs into our line up last year and still produce the kind of numbers Kenny did, given the same PT and shot attempts.
The one difference between Kenny and Eddie from the outside is that Eddie can actually hit them at a decent rate, where as Kenny was just jacking up bricks.
Less 3pts attempst b/c he realized he wasn't that good at it and if he worked on the other parts of his game he'd be better off, and thats exactly what happened.
We don't need Eddie shooting three's. It's a bit of a bonus that he can do it but in the long run, I want him inside. We didn't give up 3 draft picks for a three point shooter. We might as well have signed Matt Bullard back.
Griffin is a POWER Forward! He needs to learn inside post moves and grab rebounds and do all that stuff that POWER Forwards do. He got on a hot streak during the middle of the season, but during March and April, he was tossing up some serious bricks. If he plays inside more, he'll get higher percentage shots and he'll grab more offensive rebounds, thus giving us more shot opportunities...If he starts making more higher percentage shots from the INSIDE, then other teams will start bringing double teams on him. THAT will open up the floor and give our guards more opportunities... It's no suprise that Kenny's overall game improved with him taking almost 83% less three pointers. The same thing can happen with Eddie...
