I have been listening to an old friend this weekend in the King. I have a 3 CD set called "Artist of the Century" which consists of 75 songs plus a double CD set entitled "Elvis: The Top 10 Hits" as well as "Great Country Songs" and "If Every Day Was Like Christmas". In going through those CDs and listening to close to 100 great songs, I would have to say that my 10 favorite Elvis songs are: 1) I Want You, I Need You, I Love You 2) The Girl of my Best Friend 3) Kentucky Rain 4) Always on my Mind 5) Mystery Train 6) Return to Sender 7) In the Ghetto 8) Hard Headed Woman 9) Suspicious Minds 10) All Shook Up Of course this leaves off Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, Hound Dog, Can't Help Falling in Love with You, Burning Love, Polk Salad Annie, etc. Geez, I could go on forever! Elvis really proved to me why they called him "The King". So, what are your favorite Elvis songs?

TBar: I'll have to post a new list later this evening as I have had several lists and can probably not find the one you are talking about. Come on guys - you mean to tell me that only like 11 people here besides me likes "The King"?? If that is true, I find that highly disappointing.
Okay, TBar, I went through my list of CDs and I unfortunately cannot eliminate choices to get this list down, so you'll have to bear with me on this list. Now, TBar, aren't you glad that you asked that??
I like I Can't Help Falling In Love an awful lot. Also lots of the famous hits like Hound Dog, Love Me Tender, Heartbreak Hotel, etc. I sang Blue Suede Shoes in my sixth grade talent show. I was totally obsessed with Elvis then. Elvis and the Sugarhill Gang. But my all time favorite's All Shook Up. Man, when Potsie Webber sang that to Joanie Cunningham at Al's I thought I was gonna die. My two favorite things: Elvis and Happy Days colliding. And with my very favorite Elvis song to boot. Big day for me. Manny: Your list is good. You need some Dylan. I suggest you start with Highway 61 or Blonde on Blonde. That is, unless you just had a bad breakup -- in which case you go straight to Blood on the Tracks.
I really, really love "Polk Salad Annie." That song just trucks. You can't go wrong with early model King like "That's Alright Mama," or "Mystery Train." For soppy Elvis, I am fond of "Don't Cry, Daddy" and, of course, "In the Ghetto." Both songs written by Mac Davis, I believe. Have any of you seen the '68 Comeback Special? Elvis was a God that night. His little unplugged section was awesome and there was some great 60's liberal kitsch (if you've seen it you know what I'm talking about) in there, too. One last recommendation: read Peter Guralink's biographies of Elvis, if you get a chance. I think that lost in the cult of Elvis is how much he knew about and truly loved music. Good thread Comic Book Guy (why is Manny Rameriez no longer the screen name?)
No one has mentioned "Are you lonesome tonight"!! I saw a live recording of that song and that is something I will always remember Elvis for. He just gave everything of himself when he did it. He is truly The King
Batman: Thanks for the props. You're right about me having to get some Dylan. One of these days, I will buy "Blonde on Blonde". It's too bad that I don't have an endless supply of money so I can buy all the CDs I want! Elvis: I'm glad that you asked that. About 2 weeks ago, my disgust with MLB reached an all-time high. As much as I love baseball, I will not have a user name associated with it if they go on strike. I asked Clutch privately for a name change. The Simpsons are my favorite TV show and this is the user name I should have registered with over a year ago. It has been a pain knowing that there are other people out there that don't know that "Comic Book Guy" is the same poster as "Manny Ramirez", but it is a small price to pay in taking my stand.
