Just picked up an acoustic electric a couple weekends ago, trying to learn to play. Anyone who plays know of some easy songs I should start with? Right now I'm working on the following (but these arnt anywhere near mastered by any means): Jack Johnson - flake, times like these counting crows - mr jones radiohead - fake plastic trees thanks gents
Here are a few incredibly easy songs I was able to learn in a day's time in most cases when I started playing a couple years ago. Leonard Cohen (Or Jeff Buckley's cover) - Hallelujah. Bob Dylan - Blowin' In the Wind Radiohead - High and Dry Oasis - Wonderwall The Vaselines - Jesus Don't Want me for a Sunbeam John Lennon - Imagine Coldplay - The Scientist Coldplay - Yellow (its very similar to fake plastic trees) Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day The Shins - New Slang
hank williams songs. guy was a genius of simplicity. and if i may add...if you are going to learn cover songs stick to tunes you are already familiar with - not only will it be easier to learn, but you will actually want to play it. so if hank aint your bag than dont bother learning his songs.
Some of these songs use the F chord. I'm going to be impressed if you're using the F Major and the index finger barre.
haha, I almost wrote "please dont say nirvana - come as you are" I knew how to play that song before I had a guitar. Thanks, Moe, I'll try some of them out.
Yeah, I do have a problem with that. The Fmaj barre chord is the hardest part, for me, especially with my hobbit hands, lol. But like I said, I'm no where near 'mastering' these songs.
I've been on a huge Tom Petty kick lately... I've gone through about 7 albums learning all the 6 and 12-string parts. I can't wait to see that band live in May.
Learn your cords first! Once you know all the easy cords (A,am,Bm, C, D,E,em, F, G) then you can play almost any song. As for songs...Hey jude is really easy and a lot of fun, Good riddance by greenday, Slide by the goo goo dolls(first song I learned) Let her cry is a fun one to play too
Slide is easy? I'm a beginner also, but I thought that required a different tuning among other things..
I tried to learn about 8 years back, and my biggest mistake was not learning my chords. Thats why along with playing a few songs, I found a good site that gives you alot of basic chords. It makes you play a couple chords by themselves, then makes you switch between 2 chords, then between 4, etc. I usually start with a few dexterity drills, then move to chords, then attempt to play a few easy songs.
i'm not musical at all but i think the Ramones have pretty simple songs...not sure how that would come across on acoustic though
rock = chords metal = power chords I picked up on barre chords with practice every day for 2 months, it is the B barre that always gave me fits.
