If Yao's man is in front of Yao, then Scola's man will be shading behind Yao to prevent a high pass. Lowry should just attack the basket. If Scola's man commits to Lowry, then Lowry should pass to a cutting Scola. If Scola's man doesn't commit to Lowry, then Lowry should either score or draw a foul. The main obstable would be whether or not Lowry can get by his defender, but in any case, he's proven to be better than Brooks in this facet of the game.
You have a good point, the addition of Ariza and Martin would open up the lane, I will have to see them playing together first before coming to a conclusion. I agree with you on the defensive end tho, Brooks is a bit of a liability on the defensive end due to his size. Although Lowry better on defense, he is still the same height as Brooks, and either ways the PG position will still be our weakest position on the defensive end.
Wrong. Lowry may be better at finishing in traffic but there is no way he's better at beating his defender.
It won't work....trust me. Defenders can basically sandwich both Yao and Scola at the same time in the paint completely eliminating an entry pass. They will concede wide open threes to Lowry/Ariza every play. There will be no driving into the lane into four defenders because they will be charging fouls or blocked shots. Shooting 80 wide open 3s a game at 32-35% clip which is thier career averages will net you about 80 points a game. The added defense from Lowry in the lineup may be useful but we would lose a TON of games. Think back to the Alston/McGrady days. The team was good most nights, but near unstopable when Rafer was knocking down his threes. Thats how almost all of the good teams beat us. Using that exact same strategy.
I'm talking about simply lowering your head and attacking the basket while being guarded by the opposing pg. Lowry is better at this than Brooks.
I don't buy that. Leave Ariza wide open he'll make them pay. He doesn't make contested shots, but he's a good spot up shooter. Lowry if you leave him wide open he'd make his fair share as well. 33% equals 50% 2 point shooting, I'll take that. And he can drive when his man trying to recover. Also that lineup can run fastbreaks unlike previous Yao invovled team.
No because they would be each guarding Yao and Scola respectively. I guess the term "clogging up the paint" is a bit misleading because you don't have to be actually in the paint to clog up some of the driving lanes for penetration.
If Yao and Scola are properly spaced, then the lane wont be clogged. However, if the defense does collapse, then the help defense would have to come from Scola's defender, and Scola is very capable of consistently making a 12-15 ft jumper.
Then check these numbers and draw your own conclusion; Straight from NBA.com: KMart has now been with the Rockets for ten games. He has averaged 16.7 FG attempts per game and shot an average of 10.1 3-pointers. In the 53 games prior to the trade, Brooks averaged 15.9 FG attempts per game and 6.1 3-point attempts. He also averaged 6.2 assists, essentially without a bonafide scorer opposite him. In the same 10 games since the trade, Brooks NOW averages 19.5 FG attempts and 7.7 3-point attempts, with an assist average of 5.8... and this with an accomplished shooting guard. Not the sort of figures you would want to see from someone who is supposed to complement and assist your main scorer.
It's about the concept called "Know Your Personnel" that was mentioned in the game verses the Wizards. Lowry has been playing with a group of guys that play up temp, move great without the ball, and have good hands. I have no problem with Lowry starting this year, but he isn't going to be the most effective PG with Yao in my opinion. That is, unless he changes his game to adapt to a half court style of basketball. With Yao playing, you would rather take a high percentage shot by Yao, 3-10 feet from the basket, which usually entails throwing the ball to Yao in the post (which is usually initiated by the guys on the wing). Or kick it out for a 3 pt. and AB is number 1 in the league in 3 pt.'s made, that is deadly with an interior juggernaut like Yao. Lowry might lose his offensive prowess in a half court PG position. He doesn't have the shooting touch to spread defensive, nor does he penetrate as well against half court vs transition defense (from my observation). Aaron AKA the water bug Brooks has been developing a better mid range jumper and a "tear drop" shot that makes him very effective. Lowry greatly excels at penetrating in transition and making quick passes to the cutter. I don't think Lowry won't play with YAO, but I would expect AB to start with Yao since his playing style would compliment Yao's better.
andre miller is a great half court PG and he can't shoot, so is jason kidd. You don't need to be a great shooter to be a great half court PG.
first, small sample. second, increased playing time due to injuries. third, Brooks is the main scorer.
If Lowry learns how to hit a consistent 3 then he should be considered a start. AB is a quarter of our points every game. His consistency and overall playmaking should be better once more help arrives and there is more space to work with. Lowry is definitely a good playmaker and packs a pretty mean punch coming off the bench but we don't have the scoring ability to have a pass first PG.
lol ariza/bat are scorers? All I'm saying is AB can create his own shot and hit a extremely consistent 3. Can those players create their own shot?(not named Scola and Yao)
