I think what everyone needs to keep in mind... this is a kid who has only played organized basketball for a little more than 8 years. Think about that for a second. I was a freshman in high school when I started my 8th year of competitive basketball knowledge... the year that Jordan started playing... how about you? He's very athletic and raw, but he seems quick minded, energetic, and willing to work. What's not to like about the kid's potential? Give him an off-season to work with our big man coaches/training staff and I have faith the kid will impress consistently.
I'm not even a Piston fan but I that just made me sad. . Poor Detroit, next time I see somebody in a Piston jersey I'll just hug them and say it's ok. Then hug them again for letting Chauncey Billups go for ......AI. Joe Dumas has made some questionable trades. Luckily it paid off in 04 cause without a championship he would have a team like the Jazz. Top tier team without rings.
Morey knew this as well. That's why when people called him a bust or just a throw in or was never going to be better then andersen i was like WTF
You can't get too excited after one game but Hill has some promise. I don't think it should be held against him that the Knicks traded him within his first year; instead it just shows how badly they wanted the ability to sign two max players this summer.
Call me nuts, but 8 years of organized basketball experience seems like a sufficient amount of time, given Hill's age. One does not need to begin their basketball journey at the age of 6, in order to grasp the nuances of the game.
Well hope springs eternal so they say. Sorry guys but I seem to remember the same hopefully optimistic things said around here about Malick Badiane and we all know how that worked out. Also, I believe that the question isn't whether or not he can develop in x years because the Rockets coaches are so much better than the ones he's had so far but rather can the Rockets afford to devote x years to a project big man particularly when their need for a PF-C is so critical right now and will be even more so if Yao goes down (again).
Sure you can grasp a lot in that time frame, and he has obviously, but think about it this way... you have to go to school for 12 years before they give you a diploma... then it's four more years of college before they give you a degree... even more school if you want a masters or a doctorate, so why shouldn't you still be able to learn more about basketball in the same amount of time.
This guy has athleticism, height, length, good leaping ability, moves his feet well, is active, and has a slight mid-range jumpshot. The only thing is that he's raw and needs development. I really don't see why not this guy can become a starter-quality player. It's too early to say, but Hill has the potential to be much better than Landry. Consider that Carl was a second round draft pick that almost every Rocket fan opposed, and is now one of the better low-post scorers in the league. Imagine what the Rockets can do with a top 8 overall pick.
True enough. People taking opinions in the extreme on either side need to calm down a bit. Jordan Hill has potential. He could become a high quality NBA player. Not a superstar, by any stretch. But he's no scrub, and it's WAY too early to even think about labeling him a bust. My opinion has been (and will continue to be) that Hill was the third or fourth best asset acquired in the big three-team trade last month. That's not a knock on Jordan. It's a testament to what a complete and utter undressing Daryl Morey did of Donnie Walsh and (to a lesser extent) Geoff Petrie. The Knicks needed to be rid of his salary (even though he was a high draft pick with lots of potential), and it still puzzles me that the Knicks weren't able to move him elsewhere for more value; but perhaps Morey insisted on him in the deal, not because of Morey's love of Hill but rather in order to extract every drop of "assets" that he could out of New York. If Hill and those draft picks fully pan out for the Rockets, this trade could end up being EPIC for this franchise. This.
So you're saying that the Pistons had no reason to take Darko as the first round pick instead of dwayne, darko ect..? Paul Pierce was considered a top 3 pick but he fell to number 10..You're saying those teams didn't have any reason to pass on him? I don't know what you're smoking but there is a reason multiple teams pass on a player that is projected to be a top 3 pick. There is a reason why Darko was chosen over Dwayne Wade. I have not in any way shape or form implied that those concerns were legit..because obviously they turned out not to be but there is a reason for everything...Look around you.
Wow the BBS really doesn't understand the word patience I still remember in Landry's second year people were like OMG Landry is a bust we should of got Glen Davis instead and look what happened next year. So I think these guys should really look at the bigger picture as much as I love Landry, Hill is younger taller and really has some potential just give him one or two offseasons to work on his game. Oh the contrary people are wondering why 7 teams passed on Hill lets ask the same question about why Portland passed on MJ....
